The 1st ever HAPPY HOOKER MOVEMENT! Please participate!!

Great idea, Jasper.

That way all mainstream media will quickly embrace it and it will be featured prominently in newspaper stories and six o'clock news reports. Let's educate our children young.

Ummmm .... where's the damn sarcasm smilie when you need one?

Wait, I get it . . . that's what this was all about:

I have mixed feelings about the whole happy hooker movement, I also have mixed feelings with the term happy hooker and with my experience in sex work and my life as a whole I don't see myself fitting into that box of being labeled a happy hooker. I am a survival sex worker who is moderately content with doing sex work. Here is my piece no I am not going to send in anything official.

- Your first name, your business title (independent escort, exotic dancer, massage attendant, etc). **

- how you got into the industry
There were classified ads in the paper looking for adult workers. I answered one and started out as a webcam model. Which resorted in me being held captive for a year and half when I finally got enough resources to go to the police they did not want to help me the only reason they made any efforts to help was because I had to tell them my capture was also recruiting minors.

- why you decide on sex work
I originally got into sex work thinking I would become a famous porn star , I returned to sex work because my mental illness. Having a mental illness doesn't allow me to keep a regular job and have the flexibility to treat my condition with the limited programs available.

- what you enjoy about your job
The freedom it allows me to be able to take care of myself without the pressure of working for someone else.

- any accomplishments you have achieved due to the financial benefits of sex work
I was able to complete a 4 month trauma health program that I was on a 1 year waiting list to get into and find health care professionals who are understanding and who have found the right treatment method for me and where I can start to consider exploring other interest.

- other positive gains you feel you enjoy in this line of work
That I am able to slowly move passed being out of constant fear of taking care of myself.

- some comments about what customers are like
I find my customers to be similar to me they are shy, awkward trying to figure out how to present themselves as normal to the world. While they crave an outlet to express themselves and be validated outside of the society pressures .

- one well thought-out suggestion about what the government can do to improve your experience as a sex worker**
Creating laws to help sex workers isn't black and white, punishing clients and claiming to save sex workers isn't going to work, you are pushing the stigma and judgement around. Claiming to provide "exit" programs isn't going to work when your exiting programs are failing

We need programs that are flexible to peoples lifestyles and that don't cut them off when they have small steps of success. That are able to let go when they are able to stand on their own feet and not be judge for their past for how they choose to survive, earn a living, spend their leisure time.

- if you have retired from the business, describe your success & exit strategy.**
My career transition strategy is to find funding for my education that will have me in less debt as possible.

Only quoting the bookends here, but want you to know I am very touched by the entirety of your post, Miss Riley.

Riley, that is a touching story and it really should be sent to Ottawa.

Escorting to help pay for treatments is an excellent trade off.

Riley

This is the best *post you have ever posted!! The name of the movement is meant to be controversial. Much like Slutwalk took back the term "Slut", "hooker" can be a term of empowerment when put in proper context!

Your story is the perfect middle ground. Social & economic reasons got you into the trade, you have experienced the highs & the lows, and the personal struggles of many Canadians. I'd love if you would submit your story!! In fact, I'm asking you to!*

I think the government has forgotten the many realms of sex work and technically speaking, their stupid new harmful laws could wipe out your income, and your right to choose sex work. That's the key!

I 100% agree about funding & proper support systems!! I was stunned at the stories heard last week. Clearly, Canada has a trafficking issue, a violence issue, native equality issues, drug & addiction issues, etc. Your suggestions are real-time insights into what would actually make your life safer, more productive, and allow you to retire by choice. (I don't like the term "exit" lol).*

Please add your voice to our crusade! I want all sex workers spoken for & heard! Every individual story has as much impact as the awful stories heard from the witnesses last week in Committee. This voice needs to be heard!!!*

Whether it's a woman in your position, a woman in mine, and everything in between & sideways....every single one deserves choice, safety, & the ability to be self-sufficient.*

Thank you so much for posting your story! Its a beautiful heartfelt journey. I'm thrilled to hear how you have found your balance. That's what we all seek in life. Peace. Balance. Joy.*

I'll say it again, I encourage you to please submit your story on HHC's website! Your voice is very important.*

Xo.*

I will think about it over the week.

*which basically means I will talk about it with my therapist and see how I feel after my session

Ms. Daniels I'm touched by your story! You've done it all within the industry and you're story needs to be told.

That is one heck of a life.

I also say the name should be changed for something less daring and more conservative.

it's my story and Riley isn't exactly my legal name and it's pretty conservative as it is.

I could add way more detail of my life and what I've experienced and how I've used sex work to make my way threw the mess of the system holding back people with mental illness.

Make it less conservative for what cause the conservative government need more reasons to shut down prostitution and not see it for what it really is.

Send it in, Riley! :good:

While the term "Happy Hooker" may not suit her, I think her circumstances are similar to many escorts working to survive but who have some control in their job.
Maybe NSHBBTTASW or "Not So Happy But Better Than The Alternatives Sex Workers" is better?

Submit your story independently, Riley.
Let your MP and the media know how you feel as well if you feel comfortable talking about your circumstances.

Updated posted by Jessica Lee:

for those who might not have visited the site recently, the language and vocabulary of the preamble has changed dramatically since this thread started. It was quick and sudden and I just posted it! I didn't even notice how gender biased it was.. it referred to workers as 'women'... so I have edited it probably three times since this thread was first posted ... the OP is the very first version.

Please take the time to read this:

We are a collective of likeminded people, a voice for proud sex workers across Canada. It has become apparent that the government of Canada has not heard enough from a rather large sector of the adult industry: They have not heard enough from the happy, voluntary, consensual sex worker who is enjoying or has enjoyed the financial, social, & liberating benefits of the lucrative trade of sexual services for money.

A happy hooker is a safe hooker, and Bill C-36 does nothing to ensure safety for sex workers. Therefore we are gathering letters from consensual sex workers to send to the Senate before it debates Bill C-36.

It’s important this side be heard because it distinguishes between the experience of consensual sex workers from those forced, coerced, or exploited.

Consensual Sex Work is free-will choice by empowered people choosing sex work as a platform to other life goals. We strongly feel we are the majority, and we need to be heard, understood, accepted and supported by Canadians and our government.

We all can agree that those who are forced into sex work by an individual, a group, or a circumstance deserve assistance if they want to exit.

However, we also all need to agree there are people in this country who freely and willingly enjoy engaging in sex work, and that needs to be seen as acceptable and addressed in a supportive manner in accordance with his or her rights and freedoms as a person of independence.

More information & insight regarding consensual adults exchanging sex for money is needed ASAP!

On this site, we will post the letters written by sex workers, by people who enjoy their services, as well as any media reports, Bill C-36 new updates, relative links and discussions.

Pass this on to as many workers as you can!**

Let’s start the 1st ever Happy Hooker Movement. Thank you!!

Gotta say how proud I am of these ladies for operating with such grace and integrity under intense pressure. :good:

Posted by Riley on facebook Weirdly enough I found this because the link was posted on an escort review board. I posted my "story" on one of the boards. they were all happy about the piece but I don't think they truly understand the negative power using happy hooker really does since I am a "survival sex worker". The education from the creators is very lacking. I know sharing my story might make an impact and inspire some people but to make it official to the government when they only see me as a mentally ill lost person who feel into sex work at a young age and used it to grow up an adult isn't going to stick with them.

I am definitely the type this Bill wants to put into the victim box and push into some "save me" program. I am not even sure if writing my own letter to an MP will actually make an impact since most people hear my story and only feel sorry for me unless they are sex workers themselves where they would see me as empowered and brave.

Riley, I'm a little bit confused, do you want to be an escort or no and is anyone besides obviously trying to make a living forcing your to do so?

No condemnation intended in my question, more so to what you would be your end game, your goals and what you want to do if escorting is not your passion?
