I have mixed feelings about the whole happy hooker movement, I also have mixed feelings with the term happy hooker and with my experience in sex work and my life as a whole I don't see myself fitting into that box of being labeled a happy hooker. I am a survival sex worker who is moderately content with doing sex work. Here is my piece no I am not going to send in anything official.
- Your first name, your business title (independent escort, exotic dancer, massage attendant, etc). **
- how you got into the industry
There were classified ads in the paper looking for adult workers. I answered one and started out as a webcam model. Which resorted in me being held captive for a year and half when I finally got enough resources to go to the police they did not want to help me the only reason they made any efforts to help was because I had to tell them my capture was also recruiting minors.
- why you decide on sex work
I originally got into sex work thinking I would become a famous porn star , I returned to sex work because my mental illness. Having a mental illness doesn't allow me to keep a regular job and have the flexibility to treat my condition with the limited programs available.
- what you enjoy about your job
The freedom it allows me to be able to take care of myself without the pressure of working for someone else.
- any accomplishments you have achieved due to the financial benefits of sex work
I was able to complete a 4 month trauma health program that I was on a 1 year waiting list to get into and find health care professionals who are understanding and who have found the right treatment method for me and where I can start to consider exploring other interest.
- other positive gains you feel you enjoy in this line of work
That I am able to slowly move passed being out of constant fear of taking care of myself.
- some comments about what customers are like
I find my customers to be similar to me they are shy, awkward trying to figure out how to present themselves as normal to the world. While they crave an outlet to express themselves and be validated outside of the society pressures .
- one well thought-out suggestion about what the government can do to improve your experience as a sex worker**
Creating laws to help sex workers isn't black and white, punishing clients and claiming to save sex workers isn't going to work, you are pushing the stigma and judgement around. Claiming to provide "exit" programs isn't going to work when your exiting programs are failing
We need programs that are flexible to peoples lifestyles and that don't cut them off when they have small steps of success. That are able to let go when they are able to stand on their own feet and not be judge for their past for how they choose to survive, earn a living, spend their leisure time.
- if you have retired from the business, describe your success & exit strategy.**
My career transition strategy is to find funding for my education that will have me in less debt as possible.

This is the best *post you have ever posted!! The name of the movement is meant to be controversial. Much like Slutwalk took back the term "Slut", "hooker" can be a term of empowerment when put in proper context!
Your story is the perfect middle ground. Social & economic reasons got you into the trade, you have experienced the highs & the lows, and the personal struggles of many Canadians. I'd love if you would submit your story!! In fact, I'm asking you to!*
I think the government has forgotten the many realms of sex work and technically speaking, their stupid new harmful laws could wipe out your income, and your right to choose sex work. That's the key!
I 100% agree about funding & proper support systems!! I was stunned at the stories heard last week. Clearly, Canada has a trafficking issue, a violence issue, native equality issues, drug & addiction issues, etc. Your suggestions are real-time insights into what would actually make your life safer, more productive, and allow you to retire by choice. (I don't like the term "exit" lol).*
Please add your voice to our crusade! I want all sex workers spoken for & heard! Every individual story has as much impact as the awful stories heard from the witnesses last week in Committee. This voice needs to be heard!!!*
Whether it's a woman in your position, a woman in mine, and everything in between & sideways....every single one deserves choice, safety, & the ability to be self-sufficient.*
Thank you so much for posting your story! Its a beautiful heartfelt journey. I'm thrilled to hear how you have found your balance. That's what we all seek in life. Peace. Balance. Joy.*
I'll say it again, I encourage you to please submit your story on HHC's website! Your voice is very important.*
Xo.*
