In some there is so much strength

That is sad but notice how dogs are always by your side if you are rich or poor.

As someone that has a great appreciation for animals of all species I couldn't help but take note of the image that followed that one...

"A man embraces his dog as she receives saline from a drip from a veterinarian hospital financed by Sao Paulo’s municipal government. The hospital offers free health care for the pets of low-income residents in Sao Paulo, Brazil."

If only more people grew up with an appreciation for the symbiotic relationship we can have with the animals we share the world with, the world would be a better place. It was heart-warming to see that Sao Paulo has a program that allows those in need to access health care for their four-legged companions, they give us their youth, their joyful, playful years and sometimes due to hardships people are not always financially able to care for them when they need it most, to offer a peace of mind and allow a social net for these animals is the least we can do. They deserve better in their elder years.

This one got me...

as well as this one

But 16 pictures of 45 about facts on US as the most powerful images of 2012 is a little bit too much.

Agreed but in previous years I've seen many other year end pictorials that had an almost entirely US-centric view of the world and many even focussed on the media-celebrity frenzy that is generated in a year, I thought this one did a good job avoiding that trap.

To that end I actually really liked this photo, I have been in NYC during Fashion Week a few times and of course in Toronto for is far too many times to count and I find this to be a very interesting photo especially for the times we are living in.

I think there were some that caused immediate emotional reactions in me, the father saving his daughter, the man on fire but the ones I really paused and enjoyed were the ones I had to think about longer, the Syrian boy pointing the gun at Mickey Mouse on the first day of Eid al-Atha or the Palestinian girl facing off with the Israeli soldier.

In these images I see many emotions that are universal to us all. To me, the geographical location of where the pictures were taken is far less important compared to the powerful message they each convey.
