I had the exact same reaction when those American college kids went hiking in Iraq and got arrested when they wandered over the border into Iran. wtf were they thinking even being in Iraq, never mind near the Iranian border.

Oh I agree...no different for mountain climbers, hikers, heli skiers etc. Which is why (when I watched all those S and R shows) I said: why the fuck are these people risking their lives to save some bonehead who fell off a mountain? Let him rot on that ledge perched 1,000 feet up the side of a mountain......

I say: you make a conscious decision to risk YOUR life by doing something stupid (or what I consider stupid). Why should someone else risk THEIR life by getting you out of trouble that YOU put YOURself into? Plus, who pays for the cost associated with YOUR choices? (everyone harps on smokers, but IMO mountain climbing is no different).
