Thinking of Moving

I live in Mississauga and I'm thinking of moving closer to the downtown core, maybe even a condo because I know I can't afford to buy a home downtown.

I've never lived in a condo. I can probably sell my home and feather my nest nicely with the sale price of my home compared to the purchase price of a condo.

The question is can I be happy in a flat with a nice view compared to a home where I just step out my front door.

Also with the extra money in my bank account I will be very tempted to spend it on the ladies......hmmmmm decisions decision,

I live in a condo at present and it has it's good points and bad points.

Firstly my condo fees have almost doubled in the last 10 years since I have been here but my income hasn't.

In my building they have rules on top of rules. I have received about six or so letters from the property management about certain rule infractions I have been guilty of. One was when I had an extra lock put on the front door ( seems I don't own the door). Another was when I decided to lay out in the sun down on the grass ( seems no one is allowed to even walk on the grass,lol). And the best one is when the guy in the building across from me complained that I was walking around in my unit without any clothes on,lol. Now for the life of me I can't make out anything he is doing in his unit. I have since found out he uses binoculars, WTF!

Some of the my neighbours just love to engage in meaningless disputes and even like to try and drag me into them. Signing petitions etc. Me I just stay out of it.

I had forgotten how I dislike elevators until I moved in here. Now I'm using the stairs a lot.lol. Beats waiting 5 minutes some mornings.

I use headphones to watch TV or listen to music because my neighbour could hear through the walls. He was nice about it so I figured I would just solve the problem altogether.

Madman, may I suggest if you sell to rent a condo for one year. This will allow you to experience the change in lifestyle and at the end of your one year lease you can make an intelligent decision on the type of home that best suits your needs. You may also benefit from a correction in the housing market bubble and/or if Rob Ford were to get re-elected a strong possibility in a reduction in the land transfer tax.

Only move into a condo if it's a small one in terms of stories and has outdoor parking! Indoor parking will eventually raise your condo fees to the point you can't afford them because the underground will need to be repaired, this usually happens around the 10 year mark. Recently I saw a program on W5 or Fifth Estate about the Condos (City Place) and how poorly built they are and the problems that tenants are having. Buyer beware.
