What a colossal embarrassment adding insult to death for the Jeffrey Schreier's family and friends. Correct spelling does matter!:grrrrrr:

The sombre 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks is behind us. But for one victim's family, the New York memorial to the victims of the World Trade Centre's destruction has left an unpleasant memory of its own--a misspelled first name, carved in stone.

Jeffrey Schreier was killed on 9/11 while working at Cantor Fitzgerald, the financial firm based in the World Trade Centre that was nearly wiped out in the attacks.

But on the memorial unveiled this weekend, Schreier's first name was misspelled as "Jeffery," a spokesman for the memorial, Michael Frazier, said.

"We are extremely sorry for the pain this mistake has caused Jeffrey's family," Frazier added in an e-mail to the New York Times.

"As soon as we found out about this error, we began working on how to make it right, and we're engaged with our fabricators, contractors and the architect to do so."

Hmmmrrph.....a colassal embarassment? hardly. A faux pas? Certainly. Everyone acknowledged that an error was made and are taking steps to correct it. Now if they'd said "tough beans" that'd be a different story.

Take it from someone who does this sort of thing for a living. This is nothing. Consider what they had to do to get that entire memorial ready in time. Consider that when construction began, EVERYONE involved estimated that it would take 2 yrs longer than it did and the ONLY way it was ready was due to running 3 8 hr shifts everyday......

Once again, anyone who is up in arms over this must never have made any sort of error in their lives.....must be nice to be perfect in every way.....

They are working to make it right. Good for them. I agree, hardly a colossal error.

I for one belive it would have been better to have never needed the memorial

I agree but I think the colossal error is having the information that could have prevented the whole thing and not acting on it........
