What do you tell someone when you are told he is dying?.

I was just told that an old friend of mine is dying of cancer. A phone call and to get together is in order but what does one say?.

Hi how are you I hear you are dying or do I wait until he tells me?.

Let your friend dictate the conversation he will guide it to where he wants to go.

Personally I always found these situations very cathartic and rewarding.

Puts a lot of things into perspective.

I would find it a very hard conversation to have. I would want to be cheerful to pick up their spirits but at the same time I would be terrified they might think I am making light of it, yeah it would be really awkward for me..

When I was 27 my father was dying, he begged me to end his life.....I fought for him.
I argued with the Hospital Administer and even my sister.....Finally his doctor a friend of
the family talked to him. What happen nexts was he was pull from critical care and put
into a hospital room. Nothing to help him breath etc...2 days later he went.....
Sometimes I feel guilty but he would have live for 6 or 7 more months in pain, sleeping through
it and not being all there when family visit.
