What has humbled you at your old age?.

I used to be a cocky guy and on the border of rage when driving. Plus would not listen to anyone that had attitude or never felt sorry for the weak and useless. I had a wake up call last week that humbled me and changed my life.

There are bigger, meaner and more intelligent people that know how to manipulate a person.

Lesson learned. I now turn a blind eye on anything that doesn't affect me or my family.

Care to share your experiences on the above?.

Humbled hiking in the mountains and finding that I get winded so much easier then when I was younger... it won't stop me from hiking, but I have to pace myself.

Well I could probably write a book on this from my last year's experience but I will just mention one of the most humbling experiences.
Standing in a hospital room looking at your child and wondering if you should start making funeral arrangements
This happened twice in the span of 12 months.
If that does not make you stop think twice you are not human.
And yes I also was a guy that got all bent out of shape about road rage and shit like that but it does not really bother me.

Going from being very successful and having all that comes with it to being homeless and sleeping on a park bench.

I know what you are going through. Hope your child is better.

My princess who is in her 40s now is doing fine now! Still healing after the last surgery and hope we never have to deal with either of these two illness's again.
I would not wish this on anyone not even my worst enemy.
I can not go into the details but I can tell you the strongest person you know would get a sniffle if they knew what she went through
And yes she is my princess and always will be as long as I can breathe!

I'm not a praying man, but I do hope for a speedy recovery and long life and health for your princess. As for me, I've come to the understand truly what it means to be happy because that happiness stands on a thin rope that could snap at anytime, and there isn't much you can do about it except to stay on that rope as long as you can.

You and I have had several pm's about some stuff and I hope all continues well for you!
I was not a praying man either and I can tell you that I only go to church for funerals and weddings when I have to but I will say I spoke to the big guy about my daughter and he must have heard me!
No I am not a born again bible thumper but I look at a lot of things differently now!

Yes it does make one think twice. Hope all is well with you dilligaf. I was just walking my dog in a residential area and this BMW speeds by us, I gave him the finger and started screaming at him why don't you slow down as there are many kids in the neighborhood.

He ignored me and kept on speeding but had to stop on a red light. I walk towards him and dashes out while making an illegal turn. I should have just ignored him?.

Bless all the men who call their baby girls "Princess"!

I've always had an inner humble that made me grateful for life but my normal demeanor is quite tall with a high held chin so people often mistakenly think it's pride when it isn't. What humbles me the most is Time. Seeing how my world changes and how it seems just yesterday things were so different. Watching people I've known grow up, grow old or grow cynical and waiting to feel what it's like to be grown up, let alone growing old. It's humbling to know I will probably never grow up the way others do, I admire it in others. I know the physical aging will come and then maybe people with mistakenly think I'm grown up as well...

Sorry I didn't give you my well wishes sooner, just reading this now. It's lovely to see a man be so open about his feelings towards his daughter. May she continue to experience healing and experience only good health and may you continue to have the strength to get through those very hard times. Hugs

@catherine st.claire @cristycurves
thank you so much for both of your comments.
Yes she is my princess and like my handle says I really don't give a $#t if someone does not like that I call her my princess.
Sometimes she gets a little embarrassed when I refer to her as that I simply tell her "but you are and always will be"
Just to let some of it out she was in Toronto Western - Mount Siani - Sunnybrook - and a few other smaller hospitals in that year.
At one point it was doctors coming in every day or every second day saying congratulation she does not have ??????
But it took almost 6 months to determine what she did have.
This is the kind of stuff that really changes your outlook on a lot of things in life.
I am not peeling onions like one other poster said I am just trying to point out to some that life can shoot you a curve ball at any time.
So enjoy what you have!

It sure does throw curve balls. My youngest son died 3 years ago.
I'm glad your story had a happier ending.
