Apparently there are more than a few who intermix, or misinterpret, or could be said to misuse the terms "hillbilly and redneck". I've met some who call themselves rednecks, yet they don't fit in with Cats representation, or any other representations for that matter, that I've read, and I've relatives that refer to themselves as hillbillies, and they also don't fit into Cats descriptive of what defines a hillbilly, nor of any of the descriptions that I've read. But then how we divine ourselves isn't always how others will define us. I suppose if you care about how other people judge you, or what they may call you, then you' ll care about how they interpret the title you give yourself, if not, you'll call yourself what you will and live as you choose, regardless of another persons interpretation.
