Here are some things going on in Toronto this Easter weekend.
The Toronto Beaches Lions Club will hold its annual two-hour Easter parade on April 5, 2 p.m. featuring floats and marching bands. The Toronto Transit Commission will showcase its new low-floor streetcar in the parade, along with all four previous generations of the streetcar fleet. If you’re lucky, you will see the Easter bunny riding a classic car — even the bunny enjoys a nice set of wheels. The parade runs along Queen St. E. from Neville Loop to Woodbine Ave.
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church will hold its annual Good Friday Stations of the Cross procession down College St. in Little Italy. People will crowd the sidewalks to watch actors playing various roles in the biblical narrative re-enact key events on Jesus’ way to crucifixion.
It may be too late to take part in the High Park Easter egg hunt (it was last week), but families can visit for some traditional 19th-century Easter fun. The museum will be open for tours and families can look at Easter treasures hidden throughout the restored rooms of the museum. There will also be egg dying.
Fort York will be celebrating “Everything Easter,” from egg hunts to arts and crafts, egg races, and a meet and greet with the Easter Bunny. All proceeds will go towards the Ronald McDonald House and the George Brown College Foundation.
The Toronto Zoo and Parks Canada want you to “Hop into Spring” this weekend.
Need some sweets? The Easter Sweets and Chocolate Tour will take you to your favourite bakeries and chocolate shops, starting in Kensington Market.
For adults, Evergreen Brick Works presents edition of “Great Friday.” Participants can try six local beers and snack on food provided by Toronto eateries.
A giant pillow fight is happening at Nathan Phillips Square on Saturday at 3 p.m. Bring your own soft and feather-free pillows — organizers ask participants “swing lightly” and avoid swinging at people without pillows or those holding cameras.
Fans of Mad Men: you don’t have to start the grieving process yet. You can celebrate the show with the Toronto Vintage Society and WITH IT Record Dance party at the Piston on the night of the season 7 premiere. The evening will feature vintage cocktails and décor, as well as 60s music. Also, the cover is $8 if you throw on a Mad Men-inspired outfit.
