No arrests were made and no-one was injured.
Darts fan Andrew Portbury had to move to the second tier of the stadium to escape the chaos.
"There were entire rows basically demolished, chairs being put on piles and tables started getting involved," he said.
"People were diving on top of the tables and it just became this huge mess very, very quickly."
The chaos delayed the finals as the players left the stage.
Mr Portbury said he was disappointed with the way organisers handled the situation.
"I was really shocked, I went to see some of the best darts players in the world do their thing and people just didn't respect they were seeing a high level of skill on display," he said.
Rosemary Grant took to social media to vent her frustration.
"It was a total disgrace!! I want my $400 back and answers!!!" she posted on Facebook.
She said alcohol was a factor.
"You could buy as much as you wanted!! Embarrassed for Melbourne and Australia!!! The security was a shambles from the beginning and needs an overhauling!! Still shaking 13 hours later!" she said.
A spokesman for the venue, Bill Lane, said it was appalling and juvenile behaviour from a small minority.
"The MC and one of the competitors, who in fact is the reigning world number one Michael Van Gerwen, they called for a restore to order and to a degree there was a positive response," he said.
"So there was a disruption of about 15, 20 minutes."
