The 32-year-old elephant came to South Carolina's Myrtle Beach Safari in 1983, a rescued baby from the horrible slaughter of African adult elephants by ivory hunters. When a contractor hired to build a pool at the preserve in 2007 abandoned his black Labrador there, the two animals formed an unlikely bond.

I have a mutt (shizu-maltese-spaniel) he's a handsome little chick magnet that thinks he's a Rottweiler! I named him Payton after Walter Payton. Anyway, I got him at 12 weeks and he turns 3 this weekend and it will be 3 years that I will have him in June.
He's a great little companion/buddy and I wouldn't give him up for the world. It took about 5 months to really have him trained but it was worth it and a friend of mine said I was very hard on him, which I was but he's so well behaved, good with people and animals and although a small dog 20lbs very protective. He doesn't bark a lot but when he does there is a reason.
I'm sure that you'll have years of enjoyment with your new friend.
