What amazing pics. I adore my dog. I know without a doubt he would die protecting me.

I love my dog and 2 cats.......They are at the door to greet me when I come home.....

My dog who is a Border Collie is very protected of me.....even my Male Cat....My dog will herd bigger dogs away from me because he sense I am nervous around bigger dogs....He will also put himself between me and a stranger until that person leaves.....

I love my dog because he stayed beside me through the break up of my marriage....laying beside me....letting me cry on his shoulder......the male cat also, my female cat would lick my face....
There were times all 3 of them just stayed in bed with me.....I would never give up my pets...they are
my family.....

Dog food questions.

Dog food questions.

What type of food you give your one year old dog?

I hear you should not be switching dog food. I have been mixing dry and wet food to my dog since she was a puppy and its costing me. Should I continue once she is older?. What is the healthiest food you can recommend?.

you can switch brands, like cat's, you just have to do it slowly over time....start by mixing a little bit of the new in with the old, then gradually increase the volume of new until that is all there is...

do a search around here, player had a recipe he swears by....and yes, feeding our critters can get expensive....i've always wanted a golden retriever but when i found out it could cost me as much as $70 a month just to feed her, well lol....that axed that...plus the vet bills etc......

It costs me 7 dollars a DAY to feed mine. Plus vet bills.

lol i rest my case....it doesn't cost me 7 bucks a day to feed ME lol......

What the heck are you eating that costs you less than 7 bucks a day? LOL

I figure I eat at least 25 bucks worth a day.

how? Pasta is only 1 dollar a bag. Its on sale at No Frill. Then theres homemade sauce. please do not buy it from the jar or you would insult all the Italians out there! :spiteful:

you can switch your dogs food, just mix it half and half with his old food, gradually eliminating the old food

soft food is no recommended for dogs because over time it ruins their teeth...check your dogs teeth for plaque...if the dog has yellow or dark brown spots on teeth just below gums ...you should switch your dog to a dental food

i feed my dogs med-cal dental purchased from a vet

its a bit more expensive but in the long run it will save you costly teeth cleaning (around $700) or extraction of dogs teeth ...even more expensive

hey lisa, have you tried a premium non-vet supplied dog food? I ask because a neighbour of mine used that stuff and reccommended it...i noticed NO difference (now this was cat food) in my cat's health, activity level or anything...he was perfectly healthy with the non-vet stuff. I might add at 1/2 the cost......

Not that i need to remind YOU of this, but vet's are in business to make a profit too....so their "premium" pet food might not be any better than any other premium food, just costs more because well, they reccommended it so you're more apt to use it....now if a vet said to me "you can use my brand, or pet value's performatin" then i'd be more prone to believe them. I mean face it, everyone will say "their stuff is the best".......

Raw scraps and the veggies that are past their prime... Doesn't really matter what with a few exceptions.

i wouldnt wanna be your dog ...lol...raw scraps unless frozen first, still contain bacteria that can hurt your dog...nevermind the expired vegies

the premium food at pet stores works out about the same price as the vets recommend food, it really is up to your pet...just watch his bowl and see if he really likes it or if he eats only out hunger.

i often mix my dogs food, with a variety of blends and they will pick out of the bowl what they like, they dont like Purina (and i usually get that for free) it's always at the bottom of the bowl after they eat the good stuff

well, you've got a better priced vet than i ever met.....to a one, ime, they've always been about 30% higher than at pet supply stores.....for example, my cat loves performatrin from pet value, $24.99 for 4 kg bag.......the vet across the road? $42.99 for 4 kg of their brand...(sorry, don't remember the name).

BTW: there's was recalled due to issues performatrin has never been.......

well I know I am a cat owner but when I got my kitten he is now 3 years when he was about 1 year and a little over he wass switch to adult cat food, but now they have a lot of cat food that are for kittens and adult cats. and I find the premium cat food acanda, orijen, wellness, true blue are better on the ingridients list then the vet recommended foods.

took in the boy cat into the vet the other day and he is at his ideal weight which isn't easy for indoor cats.

I would imagine now that your pup is transition into adult dog hood she should be trying out the the adult foods.

also if you haven't already practice brushing your dogs teeth its not an easy thing to do but pays off in the long wrong and also look into dog insurance. there are plenty of companies out there.

My dog eats Innova.

Look for a food that is not made in China, and that has real meat listed as the first ingredient. Also go with a food made for your dog's size and age, at 1yo she can have adult food unless she is a very large breed. I agree with Lisa about soft food being bad for their teeth.
