Feminists are not angry lesbians who hate men. Feminists do not believe women are better than men, or that women deserve special privileges. They do not believe women are victims.
In order to be considered a feminist, you only need to be on board with one idea: All humans, male and female, should have equal political, economic and social rights.

Although more and more people are beginning to understand the true definition of feminism and openly identifying with it, there has always been a negative stigma attached to it.

Part of this problem is the way our media sensationalizes things, trying to pass the most radical and extreme versions as the standard which, in this case, depicts a feminist as a man-hater who hates lipstick, crinkles her nose at stay-at-home moms, and unapologetically supports abortions on demand.

Thanks for posting this. It's can be hard for some of us to even use the word feminism or feminist without being called a man hater, or a bitch etc. There are a lot of things I wish were different about being a woman.

I'm always afraid taking the subway at night or walking alone at dark
I worry about being followed to a bank machine and getting robbed
There's always a nagging in the back of my mind meeting a new client hoping that I won't be in any danger
I hate wearing short dresses/short shorts and walking on the street because i get cat called every time
when a guy cat calls you or tries to get your attention and you don't respond you could get sworn at, followed, or worse

A lot of the times when i'm doing errands i'll dress down just to not draw attention to myself, maybe it makes me feel like i'm a bit safer. But being all dressed up and wearing heels and a nice outfit sure changes how you get treated and looked at by guys around you. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. I've watched a few videos of ladies being filmed walking around New York in normal clothes just to show how often they get approached and cat called. It's a shame really.

the typical feminist response is you are negating women's issues or you hate women when you refute their claims. feminism is not synonymous with women. most women don't identify as feminist i never labeled you as man hating. feminism is a man hating lesbian supremacist idealogy the evidence is there.

You should be able to walk anywhere you like with no fear of being molested.
In fact all people deserve that.

Although labeling the problem as this or that is not going to solve anything.

I personally think the laws we have in North America are softer on murders than they are in people who mis-treat animals.
In many cases we have pity on the criminals and even after 3, 5 or even 7 arrests for violence the courts still let them go or give minimal sentences.

I am a punishment fit the crime kind of guy and do believe rehabilitation is possible but unlikely for this who commit violence against women or children.
Problem is I would jail then for life, a very short life at that.

It is not a womanhood against man thing it is actually a we need to stand up and stop the violence kind of thing.

My favourite part of this thread is the grotesque misunderstanding of the word feminist... even though it was explained in the first sentence of the first post.

Why do percentages or polls have to come into play when discussing rights or wrongs. No matter how many times it's happened, no matter what the percentages are, oppressing, abusing, harassing, defaming, beating,shaming, etc, anyone/any sex is wrong. This thread was about feminism, why we need it, and we do. Not about *not* needing empathy and understanding towards male issues as well, you can have both. Being a feminist doesn't mean a woman is anti-male or uninformed about the needs of men.
Obviously a female will never completely understand a male or what they face day to day, and vice versa, one has to wear the shoes to be able to walk in them. So there will always be things to learn for both sexes and more understanding given for both sexes. So when the topic of feminism is brought up I don't think anyone needs to justify male issues, we are aware of them and supporting feminism doesn't mean you are uninformed about them or anti-male.
