yeah it can be tough... though I note that is in the US which is a remarkably violent nation, and teachers get much less support than they do in Canada.

Not really. Their pay is pro-rated-dated to 12 months per year. They are entitled to make a few extra bucks on the side.

Actually all vacation time is factored into every pay package.
Unless you are layoff for specific as is the case with contractors.

In the case of teachers they get 3 months off.
Many districts allow for the salary to be spread out over 12 months.
