I drive my winter tires all year long. To lazy to have them changed :frown:
Well, that probably means you'll have to replace them every other year. But actually, believe it or not, this is the proper procedure to do when you are planning on replacing your snow tires for the next season, just completely use up your old snow tires during the summer. Snow tires become useless when they have 3mm or less of tread left, general rule of thumb.

^^^^^ that makes sense since it is really bad for the environment and your economy if you replace tires that aren't worn out.

Like everyone rushing around replacing incandescent bulbs with the compact fluorescents.....before they burn out.....

I am soo disappointed in those CFC bulbs, they cost 3 times more and don't last nearly as long. I've had 5 CFC's burnout on me in the last two years already, none of them went much over a year. Then you have the hassle of taking those bulbs to special drop-off locations just to throw them out! And none of them work all that well as outdoor lights either. I've stopped buying CFC's and gone back to incandescents. Of course I'm doing it as each CFC burns out, I'm in no rush like I was when I started replacing the incandescents with the CFC's in the first place.

The Hankook Optimo 4S tire scored 20 per cent better on ice braking and handling performance than Canadian Tire’s leading all-season tire.

Canadian Tire is getting into the “All-Weather” tire category in a big way.According to Melissa Arbour, Business Manager Tires, Canadian Tire Corp. has won the exclusive rights to Hankook’s Optimo 4S tire. All-weather tires have come on stream in the last few years as consumers demand one year-round tire suitable for an urban environment. At the same time, all-season tires have come under much criticism as more and more tests showed that they just do not get a grip on winter. Ice performance was brutally bad and snow grip was lacking. s

This is going to be a big source of confusion from now on, the marketing men have gotten together and purposefully muddied up two very similar sounding names: the question will now be what is the difference between all-season and all-weather tires? The answer, much like All-wheel-drive vs. 4-wheel-drive: not much. Just a matter of (very vague) degrees. Why don't they just start going back to the original terminology, start calling all-seasons summer tires again, and all-weathers winter tires?

4 wheel drive is going to slowly disappear and all we will be left with is AWD. Don't believe me, try to find a 2012 stick shift and if you do it's now a premium.

Is there a big difference to using Universal all season tires to winter tires?.

Yes, winter tires provide much better traction in snow.

a new battery every 5 years helps

No Kidding. Would have helped my brother and my sister-in-law yesterday and avoiding me having to get up, drive over and boost both their cars at 6:30am!

Those booster cables you bought finally paid off

Yes, they make a BIG difference not just in getting you going, but stopping you as well. Winter tires supposedly have a softer rubber compound which makes them stick better on cold surfaces. Summer or all season tires have a harder rubber compound because they will be subjected to higher temps.....

Plus the wider channels in the tread pattern help move slush etc out from under the tire and they tend to be self cleaning (ie: compacted snow in the tread grooves get forced out unlike all season)

winter tires make a huge difference. every one should have them.

well, to be honest, you really don't need them if you live in Toronto. I mean, how often does the city get any accumulation of snow? I mean hell, the highways and secondaries up here have been snow covered all week.......

I remember back when I had a honda civic and only had all season. That thing (not a word of a lie) went through snow up to the hood without a hitch.
