Your first paycheque

Just recently I hired a young man to work for me. Gave him his paycheque this afternoon. An hour later I see him all excited and smiling from ear to ear and working twice as hard. I ask my supervisor. What's with him?.

His reply: Don't you remember your first paycheque?.


Yes I do now. What a feeling it was. $1.65 per hour for 80 something hours.

Yes, I recall my first real paycheque what a sense of accomplishment until I saw the deductions even from a part-time student job! I knew then that life was going to be shitty! Just kidding on that part. In 1984, I can't even recall what the minimum wage was but I had enough money to take my girlfriend to a movie, pay 10.00 to my dad for gas to use his car and go to McDonalds after the movie, and still had 20.00 for the next week, saved 20.00 in the bank account and gave my parents 20.00 room/board which they just saved for me.

I remember my first job I worked construction for cash at $9.00 an hour. I couldn't stand the job and only lasted 3 months. I later found a job for $11.50 an hour and made a lot less with my first pay checque and like HOF I knew the government was going to rape me on a regular basis from then on.

Did you spit on the grill after hours? I can never eat at McDonald's because of my job experience at the Big M. I started working at McD's which no longer exists at Dufferin and Wilson. After hours the staff would spit on the grill to watch it fizzle, I was disgusted. These same nimrods would eat burgers the next day!:bad2:

That's exactly what my starting wage was too. I was making $2.65 an hour when they promoted me to a manager position. I quit because it was like 'slave labour', but I can honestly say it taught me the basics of good customer service and how to work hard for next to nothing, principles that that have helped me to be successful in everything other job I've had.

Pretty amazing when I think about it - I was making $2.15/hr at age 17, was making $300/hr as a SP at age 48, lol.

LOL, I made $2.15/hr at Macdonalds also!, I think everyone worked at the Golden arches at one time or another!

It was definitely slave labour, but I had fun.

LOL, yeah but, the guys on the close-opener shift would scour and clean everything anyway before opening for the breakfast crowd.
