The last two weeks my lower right side back has caused me discomfort. It's now getting worse and it hurts when I cough now. Never had back pain before (over 50). It hurts when I move to my right, bend down to lift things and when I try getting on my car seat, Plus plus plus. I can go hours at day time without pain but early afternoon it starts acting up.

Going to the doctor means I will have to wait months for a specialists and have heard horror stories about chiropractors.

Advice, help, anything you can suggest would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Good piece of advice.

A word of advice for the four-fifths of Americans who know back pain: Consider slacking off, just this once. People who don't pursue extreme treatment tend to have fewer complications than those who end up rushing into MRIs, x-rays, epidural injections, narcotics, and even spine surgery long before it's truly necessary, according to research.

As many as 90% of back-pain episodes resolve within 6 weeks, whether they're the result of an injury or due to a structural or nerve problem. Of course, knowing that fact makes the misery only slightly more bearable, so try these patience-prolonging strategies to relieve your pain and possibly even shorten the wait until Father Time works his subtle magic.

9. If the first few visits don’t help you, more treatment probably won’t help.I used to tell my patients “three and through.” If we did not see significant objective improvement in three visits, it was time to move on.

I have herniated discs and can certainly relate to lower back pain, 2 visits to a specialist, massage, chiropractor, and other pros with no relief. It was acupuncture that helped me and a supplement called zyflamend. I recommend it strongly. My specialist said finding what works for back pain is as individual as the persons suffering. Wishing you the best of luck and quick healing, there is no worse pain. I feel for you.

I do not believe in chiropractors. It is mere coïncidence that whenever I see her the pain goes away shortly thereafter.
Always chiros , physio, exersise before drugs or invasive procedures. Chiro and physio can offer relief and advise on prevention.

I completely recommend Chiro, just do your research on who you're seeing. I've gone for the past few years for back and neck problems and mine truly helps soooo much.

Ditto for me. Neck and back pain the last few years. Started seeing the Chiro last Nov. and I have very little pain now.

How many sessions did it take you to feel better?.

Chiropractic is a load of bullshit. When I was in med school, I decided to visit a few different chiropractors to see what they did and if they were any good. (Keep in mind these "doctors" didn't attend medical school: some Chiropractic schools require a year of study, then you're a "doctor"!) Of the four I visited, three said I had severe problems with my spine that would create great and lasting pain as I got older, and I needed an extensive set of treatments to correct it. Of course, when I showed them a x-ray of my spine that showed a perfectly straight spinal column, they all said I didn't know how to read x-rays properly! One said he could cure my hay fever by spinal manipulation. When I asked how this could possibly be done he said I simply didn't understand the principles involved, and I just had to trust him. And pay $200 a visit, once every three weeks, for years, but hey, my sniffling and sneezing would be gone in time. The fourth quack told me if I didn't get serious treatment, I would be unable to walk in less than six months, but he, fortunately for me, could "cure" me for only $12,000 total!

There is not a single REAL doctor who believes all the crap chirpractors spew. Can a back massage heck someone with a sore back? Duh! But I don't want extras from the chiropractors :don'twantto-see:/

That is what I've heard from numerous sources why I am not too inclined to see one. Thanks and for the others that expressed their experiences and opinions. Took the day off to relax and back feels better but still the pain persists every so often.

Acupuncture, seriously.... it even helped my dog. the trick is finding someone who does it right! and please consider zyflamend. Some don't believe in natural supplements, but believe me had it not helped me I wouldn't reco it. It does take time to work, a month perhaps, but all who've used it say it helped them:)

I have tried acupuncture and it did help with some issues. 5000 years of history are hard to argue with.

No numbness nor the pain shoots down my legs. Thanks for your advice, visiting a phyisio soon.

For all you skeptics out there ...

Tiger cub has trouble lifting head, treated by chiropractor

CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Zoo says one of three Malayan tiger cubs at its nursery has been treated by a chiropractor.
The zoo says one of the newborn cubs was having trouble holding its head up. A chiropractor determined the cub's top cervical bone was out of alignment. After three adjustments, the cub's neck and spine are back in place.

This is the first time the zoo has used a chiropractor.

Go for a physiotherapy. I have been riding bikes, playing sports and doing physical work for half of my life and developed some injuries. It got to a point I couldn't deal with neck and shoulder pain anymore and went for a physiotherapy and it really helped. My doctor showed me special exercises and stretches that I need to do and I got much better. I am not a hundred percent and probably never will be considering what I put my body thru and still doing it but I can see huge difference. I can always recommend you a doctor if you are interested.

Chirporactors are charlatans, and the fact their "science" gets recognition in today's world annoys medical professinals no end. It would be like assuming witch doctors are valid doctors.

As for physiotherapy for what ails, definately. I use them myself.

Even witch doctors perform unexplained miracles sometimes. :wink2:

The body and mind can do wonderful things that science has difficulty explaining. Crediting it to miracles is a cop out. It's the body doing what it is designed to do.

Sometimes people beat dramatic odds...and that's great, but I have issues with a witch doctor or chiropractor taking credit for what the body does by itself.

But this is a no-win argument. No real doctor will support everything chiropractic claims...some of it, yes, not all. But you can't argue with true believers.
