Toronto police have a message for motorists in the city’s downtown core during Wednesday’s morning and afternoon commutes – keep it moving.

If they don’t, drivers risk getting a traffic ticket. As they do every now and then, police are conducting a one-day traffic safety blitz that will attempt to keep traffic moving on congested downtown streets and penalize drivers who obstruct fellow road users.

The crackdown, dubbed Operation Keep It Moving, is taking place between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., and 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Officers gave motorists a heads up Tuesday, warning special attention is being paid to no-stopping zones, gridlock and “other traffic offences that hinder the free flow of traffic,” police said in a news release.

A tag-and-tow policy will be used during the campaign. In the news release, police asked motorists, including delivery drivers, not to stop in no-stopping zones.

The blitz involves members of 52 Division’s traffic response unit, community response unit and primary response unit, parking enforcement officers, and municipal bylaw enforcement officers.

In addition to targeting motorists, police occasionally hold one-day blitzes targeting cyclists and pedestrians who don't follow the rules of the road.

No but a saw a couple that did and was giving the cops a hard time. I yelled hey you deserve it and got the finger.

In case you need to know. Delivery trucks don't care if they get a ticket or are towed. Their bosses pay for it.

I wouldn't be so quick to say they don't care! When the boss says, "You're fired for constantly getting ticketed and towed!"

Good. I'm glad they're cleaning shit up. I hate it when my morning commute gets snarled up by some douche who scored the night before and parked his car in front of her condo on Mt. Pleasant.
