So it turns out Michael Brown robbed a store moments before getting shot....

As America reacts to the most recent police shooting and the strong opinion on both sides grows I have a question.

There are 900,000 law enforcement officers across the country. Let's say there are 2 questionable shootings per month by accident or "killer cops" so 24 shootings, 900,000 cops that's 0.000026 percent.

Sure it's tragic when some gets shot that doesn't deserve it but what's a reasonable amount? Anyone that says zero is living in a fantasy world.

Or, is this only a problem when it's a white shooter and black "victim" ?

What touched off the outcry near St. Louis?
Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old who was about to begin college, was shot multiple times and killed Saturday afternoon in a confrontation with a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., a St. Louis suburb.

What do police say happened?
According to St. Louis County’s police chief: Brown was walking with a friend in the middle of the street when a Ferguson police officer tried to exit his vehicle. Brown pushed the officer back into the police car, then entered the car, and a struggle ensued over the officer’s weapon. A shot was fired inside the car. The officer and Brown then exited the vehicle, and the fatal shooting occurred.

What do witnesses say happened?
Dorian Johnson, a friend of Brown’s, told Fox 2 that he and Brown were walking in the street when the police car pulled up. The officer said to "get the eff onto the sidewalk," he recounted. Johnson said the officer reached out of the car window and grabbed Brown around the neck.
Another witness, Piaget Crenshaw, said she saw police chase Brown. “He ran for his life,” she said. “They shot him and he fell. He put his arms up to let them know that he was compliant and he was unarmed, and they shot him twice more and he fell to the ground and died."

He spoke well and would have been a perfect speech if he would have condemned the looters that use it as an excuse to rob and threaten people.

St Louis police kill another one!
(CNN) -- St. Louis police shot and killed a young African-American man Tuesday after authorities say he brandished a knife.

The shooting took place not far from Ferguson, Missouri, where theshooting death of black teenager Michael Brown by a white police officer has touched off violent protests.
"The suspect, who right now is described as a 23-year-old African-American, was acting erratically -- walking back and forth up and down the street," St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson told reporters.

"As officers arrived, the suspect turned towards the officers and started to walk towards them clutching his waistband. He then pulled out a knife ... and told the officers, 'Shoot me now. Kill me now,'" the chief said.

Responding officers told the man, repeatedly, to stop and drop his knife, Dotson said. He continued to approach, coming within about four feet of one of the officers, Dotson said, adding that both officers then fired their weapons, striking the suspect.

According to the St. Louis police chief, the suspect was involved in an incident earlier in the day at a convenience store, where he is accused of walking out with two energy drinks and a package of pastries without paying.

Asked about whether he was concerned Tuesday's shooting could inflame passions further in nearby Ferguson, Dotson talked about the importance of officer safety.

"If you're the family of a police officer and somebody approaches you within three feet with a knife, I think you have the right to defend yourself and protect yourself. So I think it certainly is reasonable that an officer has an expectation to go home at the end of the night," he said.

Oh Christ not again.

pointing guns at a protest makes it better

A police officer who was part of the effort to keep peace during protests in Ferguson has been suspended for pointing a semi-automatic assault rifle at demonstrators, then cursing and threatening to kill one of them, police said Wednesday.

A protester captured the exchange on video that has been posted to YouTube and several websites. It happened Tuesday night during the latest of several protests that have followed the Aug. 9 shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a Ferguson police officer.

On the video, a man is heard saying, "Oh my God! Gun raised!" as the officer approaches. The identity of the man who shot the video is not known.

"My hands are up, bro! My hands are up!" the man said.

The officer walks near the man with his gun pointed and appears to say, "I will (expletive) kill you."

St. Louis County police spokesman Brian Schellman said the officer is with the police department in St. Ann, another St. Louis County town near Ferguson. His name hasn't been released. Messages seeking comment from St. Ann's police chief were not returned.

People who are discussing the recent shootings should really see this video. Really, everyone should see it to know just how deadly and fast a knife can be. Would explain why officers shot suspects in a recent incident.

But some good close quarter fight training/martial arts is your best defense in a knife attack. Don't officer have to learn self defense without using their gun?.

What is taking so long and why are they stalling with the police incident report? How many days does it take to wrap this up? Until it is, dangerous protests, the presence of the National Guard and racial divide will continue to flare.

White pupils in state schools in the United States are set to be in the minority for the first time when schools return for the new term.

According to official forecasts, enrolments for the 2014-15 school year will mark the threshold when ethnic minorities become the majority.

This demographic shift has been driven by rising numbers of Hispanic pupils.

Good question and still no answer.

I love that guy for trying to stand up to his "neighbors" who are looting. The shame is that he is so wildly outnumbered! And you wonder why the police react so harshly to protesters....maybe it's because of the treatment even a camera man gets for witnessing their behavior. Can we stop pretending that the protests in Ferguson are all Kumbaya singing and holding hands and admit that there is an element of evil people who take what isn't theirs and destroy what isn't their and are making things worse for the community rather than helping?

Next you'll hear people ask why the authorities didn't do enough to stop the looting and destruction!

There was an episode of The Wire where a young cop was complaining to an older cop about the neighborhood and that all of the residents were trash and nobody helped him out when it was in their best interest. The older cop went into a speech about how proper policing is not about keeping people down.

It's about knowing the area, making friends, making good contacts, helping people out, and improving the community. It is not about beatings, batons, hiding out in a car. It's about walking the streets. Knowing your neighbors. Improving their lives, and in turn, they improve yours.

All of these skills are what salespeople need. Entrepreneurs need. Cops need the same thing, they just don't seem to realize it.

That's very accurate. The VPD have had to become mental health experts as well, due to the large number of crimes involving people with mental health issues.
