I have a minor surgery scheduled for first thing tomorrow morning. I am having a tube removed from my stomach that has been there since February. This is (I hope) the final step in my recovery, from an issue that started back in mid-December, leading to three and a half months in the hospital, including more than a month in ICU and five operations.
If I survive tomorrow (the prognosis is pretty good) I will give more details if anyone is interested. It will be great to have the last reminder gone from my body, although the scars, weakness and numbness will continue for some time to come--possibly the rest of my life. Fortunately all are pretty minor.
I have not seen any new ladies in 2017, since I really didn't want to have to explain the tube. And for the first couple of months after my release (in early April) I only saw one SP, the same one who visited me frequently in the hospital. She certainly knew what was going on, and did as much of the work as necessary, which included helping me dress and undress, and even lift me out of bed. Yes, I have nominated her for sainthood.
Anyway, as of tomorrow I am back to my normal self again. I'm eating normally (hence the removal of the tube), I'm driving (my eyes were affected by my health issues too), I'm walking (having to relearn after more than two months on my back), and no more blood tests, injections, nurses' visits, etc. And, most importantly, no plastic tube sticking out of my body!
Have a good thought for me, Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m., and I'll hopefully talk to you all later in the day.
