Some drunk idiot (no, it wasnt me) drove his dump truck into the scaffolding. Problem is I have to use that bridge next week to drive to Niagara area. No idea how I'm gonna get back. Its the Toronto bound lanes that are closed

Driver charged with impaired in Skyway crash

A major shutdown on one of the busiest highways in the province late this afternoon after a truck slammed into scaffolding at the top of the Skyway Bridge. No Toronto bound traffic is allowed on the bridge — creating major headaches on surrounding roads like Eastport Drive. The 34-year old male driver of the truck has been charged with impaired driving

Yeah, this really sucks because I dont know when the bridge is gonna re-open, and getting around it is gonna be a pain in the ass Hmmmmmm

MTO camera website so you can see when the lanes re-open:

Isn't there any other routes you can take to or from Niagara?.
There are 2 or 3 different routes you can take, but you have to drive around the skyway bridge, and they'll all be heavily jammed up with traffic for the long weekend.

They just announced the bridge will be closed till monday night. So that means all the Caribana crowd coming in from USA will have to be rerouted. Thats gonna be a nightmare

I doubt the bar/restaurant owners/ waiters don't mind. They do not spend much, don't drink and are 5% tippers.

Bridge opens back up tonight.

That truck driver is in big trouble, not only loses his license plus criminal DUI record, he caused in the millions of dollars damage to the bridge which the province will sue for.

Of course he wont have the money, so he'll probably have to declare bankruptcy

Toronto-bound Burlington Skyway Bridge to reopen Monday evening

The Toronto-bound lanes of the Burlington Skyway Bridge will reopen between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday evening, according to the Ministry of Transportation. On Thursday, a dump truck with its bucked raised crashed into the bridge’s overhead beams. The bridge’s four Toronto-bound lanes remained closed over the weekend.

Police charged the dump truck driver, Sukhvinder Singh Rai, 34, of Brampton, Ontario, with impaired driving. Rai is expected to appear in a Hamilton Court on Aug. 22 and police have suspended his driver’s licence for 90 days. “If found guilty, the liable party will have to cover the costs related to damages to crown property,” said Ministry of Transportation spokeswoman Astrid Poei Monday. “It’s not a cheap endeavor.”

Damage costs could be in the millions, she said
