My impression so far is that Mr Bodine did not require law school to pass the bar, sort of like when Leonardo di Caprio taught high school French in Catch Me If You Can.

Some guys need a lot of reps on the practice field, before seeing any game action. Other guys just show up during the National Anthem, "suit up", (or down, as the case may be), and take a few snaps. Kimi Räikkönen, the Formula One driver, used to be fast asleep half an hour before driving in a Grand Prix race.
Thank you Bob. This may or may not be true, but I'd like to think that it is at least partly true (the bit about me anyway), and it's good to hear.

The part about Kimi Räikkönen is factually true. He used to party until dawn when he had a race the next day. They'd wake him up the same way they awakened Martin Sheen in Apocalyse Now.

The other stuff is all metaphorically true. In real life, if a QB on a pro team showed up for a game five minutes before it started, he would be benched for at least the first offensive series; even longer, if he had no national television endorsement deals, and the other network didn't have a game on at the same time. The time off would fall under the umbrella term of 'equipment adjustment'.

When Sam Cassell was playing pro basketball, one season he missed four starts, because he had to take a dump when they were ready for the jump ball. Those were equipment adjustments, too.
