I'm disappointed by the media who have gone for the sensationalism aspect by posting pictures of Williams in womens'/girls' underwear. I feel sorry for the number of perfectly sane men who happen to fancy a little frill, as this is only going to increase the stigma surrounding cross-dressing.
I couldn't agree more. I've been ranting about this elsewhere for the last day or so, so I won't rehash all the details, but I find it ridiculous that the pictures are accompanied by a
"WARNING: Contains graphic and disturbing images" disclaimer. I think he looks kinda silly in those clothes, but I don't think the pictures are "graphic" and certainly don't find them "disturbing." Rape and murder are plenty disturbing in their own right, but the
pictures require a disclaimer? Give me a break! :grrrrrr:
Not to mention the inference of causal links between his sexual proclivities and his reprehensible acts of rape and murder. The way the media is portraying it, his crossdressing was the first step in a downward spiral into sexual assault and murder, which is another ridiculous claim with no merit whatsoever. There are plenty of murderers and rapists who don't crossdress, but nobody ever suggests that doing missionary with the wife is the first act of "sexual depravity" that leads them to rape and kill...
I have absolutely no sympathy for the murderous rapist as it is, but I can't see how pictures of him in lingerie should make anyone
more outraged than they should have been before. Rape and murder are more than enough reason to call him a monster, but connecting these acts with his obvious gender dysphoria is grasping at straws. I'm surprised we haven't seen more Norman Bates/Buffalo Bill comparisons yet, but I guess the media is just biding their time...
