Made with Love

Confessions of a Fat Guy by Danolo

It may technically be decided by postal code but I have friends who live 1 street apart and are at different centers. Which is why I asked. I was simply showing interest in which program you'd gone through, and I am sure those who might make use of the information will be glad to have your link you shared.

July to April is actually very fast. It use to take upwards of two years and still does if you are in other centers in Ontario.

Do not be surprised if you hit that 100 lbs gone sooner than 12 months out. Apparently men often lose faster, and in reality everyone is so individual. Is the 50 you've lost post op, or inc the pre-op time frame? I ask because if it is post op only you'd be around 4 lbs a week on average.

Well, once a surgery date is set, HRRH has an element in their program that requires one to use a product called Optifast for a number of weeks before surgery... usually 2 or 3 weeks. I was on Optifast for three weeks and during that time lost 20 lbs. The remaining 30 lbs I have lost has all been post op.

As for the speed of the process, I have a friend who went from referral to surgery in 3 months! And I've heard of folks who have had to wait 2 years. As you said, different centres seem to have different speeds.

As a further note, the Optifast is NOT covered by OHIP and costs about $100 a week.

--------

Just as an example... I just had a bowl of chili... high protein content with beef, beans, etc. But the bowl was a small desert bowl, not a soup sized bowl. And I feel full.

It takes a bit of adjustment in cooking and eating, but it all works for me. Recently I went out to Boston Pizza for a meal and had one of their appetizer dishes which was 6 chunks of bacon wrapped steak. I was only able to eat 4 and brought the other two home for a later snack.

I cannot eat some foods.... white bread... I had a bowl of chili from Tim Hortons which came with a white bread roll and butter. Before, that would have gone down right away, but now my stomach does not like it. I had one bite of it and had to spit it out. I gave away all my Kraft Dinner and pasta.....

No carbonated drinks : pop, beer, soda water, etc...

Aside from that I can eat just about anything... just in smaller quantities. No more gorging myself at the buffet.

Sounds like you are rocking your surgery. Good for you!

I watch my friends go through the motions of life post op. Some newer to it and some who are much further out (5 years+).

Enjoy your journey!

P.S. All the centers in Ontario use those shake things unless there is an individual requirement not to from what I know.

Danolo, good for you, you've taken control of your life and it's never too late.

When will you have surgery to remove the extra skin?.

I probably won't. In my case I likely will not have much extra skin... and if I do have some it likely won't impact my life much.

I understand that OHIP will fund plastic surgery to remove excess skin but only if the amount is at a certain level...but I'm not sure what the standards are for this.

Congrats Danolo on your weight loss. I'm on the opposite spectrum of the scale, I want to gain weight and I've never been able to keep it on.

How is it going with the diet?.

I also knew a friend that had the surgery and lost over 100 lbs.

Congrats Danolo! That is a mighty awesome accomplishment. Is your tongue longer now in comparison? Glad you also got to experience Heather before she retired.

Well, just an update to this thread....

My weight loss continues, but at a much slower pace.. i`m losing about one pound per week or so...

I`m now down to 235 lbs, a total loss of 65 lbs since April.

One person who hadn`t seen me for a while was concerned for me... she was afraid i had cancer or something that was causing the weight loss!

My life right now is pretty good... I can move around a lot better, I do work without breaking out into a disgusting sweat, and I feel great.

My sex life was re-awakened a bit... someone mentioned that all the extra weight produces extra estrogen and that reduces libido.. whatever the source, I`m grateful to wake up in the morning with a hard on, which wasn`t happening much before.

So, speaking of sex, i`m now going to venture out and find another SP to put a smile on my face. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of some time with Heather, and now i`m going to see who else strikes my fancy.

I`ll be sure to let you know, who and how...

By the way, I just re-read this whole thread and I thank you all for your support.... it means a lot.
