I hardly slept last night due to feeling stressed about the election, wondering what the headlines would say when I woke up this morning. I don't ever remember caring about an American election before but I feel deeply grieved that Trump won (only slightly worse than I would have felt if Hillary had won).

I've always thought of the USA as being Canada's friendly big brother, and that if anyone ever picked on us, the US would intervene and defend us.

Now I look at the US as being a potential enemy who's going to cause a lot of harm to Canada and screw up diplomatic relations with many other nations.

Primo do you realize how insulting it is to the rest of the world to have an ass like that elected in and representing the largest nation? I'm sure they're many who voted him in who are of high intelligence but figuratively speaking, they've dumbed down voting for him, that's they''re fault not mine and remember "free speech", I am allowed to state my opinion I don't have an ounce of like or respect for him, President or not, so my remarks and reactions will reflect that!

His platform and promises are buff,is Hillary a better person than him, maybe not, but certainly she'd have been a better leader. Now promises may be just that but Trump doesn't even believe in climate change or that it is a threat. I think his presidency is going to wreak havoc on the environment. As he'll build and demolish without care or concern of any plant or animal species or protected lands. Her stand on gay rights, although she is a bit hypocritical with this issue, not fully standing with gay marriage, she still was stronger with supporting they're rights than Trump is and will be. Immigration and her plans to push DAPA, which I think is fair, again, her stance was much more fair and would have been more productive than Trumps will be. Sure,I supported him because Americans need jobs that pay a living wage... Not wages legislated by government.Trade deals that do not put America at a disadvantage.Fair Trade not free trade.Lower taxes that promote business growth.Just to name a few.

Excellent discussion folks. I feel during the campaign Trump was the entertainer and said what needed to be said to win the election. Please note his speech, very much a different Donald Trump. Let's give it a year and then rate the man's achievements or shortcomings.

Explain exactly how he proposed in bringing more jobs? He brainwashed many into thinking that immigrants are stealing jobs when in fact part of the problem now a days with people losing jobs is technology, not immigrants or other issues. I think you'll be greatly disappointed in his trade deals, I know Canadians may be negatively impacted.
Regardless, time will tell how all his promises, which aren't really even clear anyways, will come to fruition.
But on another point, explain to me how all of you, you that say to children that racist speech, bullying, defaming and belittling women, is wrong, how do you now explain to them that you voted in someone who is an example of it all?

Honestly Trump is like a wild card. We really dont know what he will do with many issues facing in his country. We just know more about his personality but not so much about his plans. I guess we will find out the next 4 years.

Politics aside....Obama....8 years and I have not seen any scandals. No mistresses. No impeachment hearings.
Just classy and graceful. I think that s something you can share with your children or nieces, nephews.

Is it too early to start placing blame on Hillary and the Democrats yet? Both were too entranced by traditional thinking, and got run over by it. Actually the Republicans were also run over by Donald Trump in the primaries, due to their traditional thinking, but they're now benefiting from it thanks to Trump, riding on his coattails.

The Democrats purposely sabotaged their one good candidate, Bernie Sanders, who was generating enthusiasm, unlike Clinton, simply because it was Hillary's turn to be president (their thinking). Then even after sabotaging him, they didn't at least give him the secondary slot as the VP nominee, and instead went with a cookie-cutter vanilla biscuit as VP. Hillary made Tim Kaine her running mate because he had no chance of ever upstaging her.
