Made with Love

Did you know?.

There isn't one artifical sweetner I would trust. They are all proving to be carcinogenic or affect brain chemistry. Since sugar isn't bad for you, in moderation, gimme a heaping teaspoon of that stuff.

there is never a reason to use sugar to sweeten dishes

You can use raw honey or grated carrots to add sweetness to any dish.

Moderation. It appears that there is a study for the bad and the good effects of almost everything.

Nevertheless, I will consume less diet soda / pop as a result of these studies.

The problem is that what moderation works for you might be catastrophic for me.

Therefore I will just skip sugar and sweeteners altogether thanks.

Maurice now you really have scared me. But what do I do with the case of diet Pepsi that it's in my basement now :don'twantto-see:/

I think it is really difficult to skip sugar as I love chocolate. Then there is the natural sugar that are found in many fruits. I think our bodies need it but I could be wrong. Maurice?

There is no clinical evidence of any bad effects from natural sugar in moderation, except for a potential increase in weight (lack of exercise) and increasing chance of diabetes (which also goes hand-in-hand with age and weight), but both require massive intakes of sugar. Far more than we eat in a normal day. I know of no doctor who recommends people do not eat natural sugar for reasons other than diabetes or weight control, and both factors can be controlled by diet and exercise.

There is a ton of clinical evidence about nasty effects from artifical sweeteners. I find I can taste them instantly in things like chewing gum and some candies as they affect taste sensors on my tongue, and also affect some of my brain chemistry. The only artifical sweetner I would consider using is Splenda, which is really sugar which twists the "wrong" way to be metabolized. It tastes just as sweet as normal sugar but it cannot be metabolized by the body. Even so, I never use Splenda because I love the taste of real sugar, need the carbos (being a skinny guy), and see no reason to worry at all.

Owe you one guys. From now on only real juice, any pop is now out of my drinking routine.

Easy on the juice as well.

I read once that a 8oz glass of apple juice with it's fructose is equivalent to 9 packets of sugar.

I didn't believe it at first but when I used a juicer I was surprised at just how many apples I had to use to get out 8oz of juice.

Bottom line is just have an apple. Nutritionally it is far superior to the juice.

I always drink pop with my lunch and dinner. Since apple juice has all that sugar, then what do i drink?.

Water and carbonated water is too boring.

Well firstly the juice isn't all that bad if you say limit the serving too say 4 oz.

Personally I drink filtered or spring water with 1 oz of lemon juice with my meals.

Sugar is not bad for you in moderation! There's only 15 calories in a heaping teaspoon. Have a coffee, go double-double, you ain't gonna bloat like the Goodyear blimp! Even high-fructose corn syrup (used in pop) won't cause your guts to seize and fail. Your body absorbs the sugars, converts them to an energy store, and uses them when it needs them. As for fructose, it's a great energy source and again, too much crap on the InterWebNet about this. Do the REAL research (not some goober's Web site pushing their own whacked-out viewpoint with no facts behind them) and you'll realize this isn't bad stuff.

Artificial sweeteners, on the other hand, are bad stuff and there's tons of clinical research to prove that. It's the demand for diet drinks that causes their use (and overuse). Dammit, use moderation in what you eat and drink, try to eat fruit and veg, get some juice, and burn as many calories as you eat and you'll be just fine.

Message brought to you by the "promote sugar in everything" lobby, of which I am a charter member :biggrin2:
