You have to realize that NYC is a mecca for political correctness.
Everyone gets a medal if they participate.

So saying we must make it easier to meet our goals is how they choose to meet them. Rather than re-exam the goal and decide if the goal might not be what is good for the city. Then I fully expect the standards to be lowered.

I hope to see wheelchair bound firefighters on the job in NYC before the end of the decade. I think 60% of the force being made up by them will atone for past wrong doings.

People don't want equality for their "groups" any more. They want special privileges and revenge.

In this case I suspect with the lawsuits from failed rescues by the new recruits will cost 10's of millions per year.

I was serious though when I said since they have done this I expect to see fire fighters in wheel chairs.

After all it is only the physical requirements keeping them out of training.
