There's not much more to say, it's not like he was trying to get out of killing nine people at the Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina. But that didn't prevent Roof’s attorney, David Bruck, of trying to get the jury to go easy on him. He asked them to look go beyond the facts of the mass murder and consider why Roof did what he did.
"There is something wrong with his perception," Bruck told the Charleston, North Carolina jury in the Federal Courthouse. "Look past the surface of things."
Shifting blame? That's a lawyer for you.
Roof reportedly stared ahead blankly throughout the trial, not saying anything, letting his attorney do all the talking. Ultimately, the jurors deliberated for 2 hours, convicting him of 33 charges, including firearm crimes, religious obstruction crimes, and hate crimes.
We will be hearing Roof talk during his January 3 sentencing though -- he'll be acting as his on attorney because that always works well. Considering he's shown absolutely no remorse in murdering those church-goers, it's going to be very interesting to see how he handles the hearing.
