A Georgia mother and her two young children are unharmed after a man broke into their house with a crowbar on Friday, cornering them in an attic crawlspace.
to WSB-TV, the woman was at home with her nine-year-old twins when the doorbell rang. When they didn’t answer, the man reportedly went back to his car and returned with a crowbar.

The mother said she could see the suspect– now identified as Paul Slater– trying to enter the house with the crowbar from her office window. Without hesitation, she grabbed her children, her phone, her gun, and ran upstairs.
One can only imagine the breathless moments after the man broke down the door and began searching the house.

But the man eventually found the family.
“The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he’s staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver,” [Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman] told .
The woman then shot him five times, but he survived, Chapman said. He said the woman ran out of bullets but threatened to shoot the intruder if he moved.
“She’s standing over him, and she realizes she’s fired all six rounds. And the guy’s telling her to quit shooting,” Chapman said.
The woman ran to a neighbor’s home with her children. The intruder attempted to flee in his car but crashed into a wooded area and collapsed in a nearby driveway, Chapman said. [Emphasis added]
Slater– who was taken to the hospital with punctured lungs, a punctured liver, and a punctured stomach– has reportedly been arrested six times since 2008.

Donnie Herman weighs in on his wife’s actions. (Photo: WSB-TV)

WSB-TV continues:
“My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as a responsible, prepared gun owner,” [the woman's husband] Donnie Herman said.
He said he’s thankful for his family’s safety.
“Her life is saved, and her kids’ life is saved, and that’s all I’d like to say,” Herman said.
Commenters have overwhelmingly agreed with the husband thus far– one Savannah Morning News reader even illustrating the importance of the woman’s firearm.
In the other report, after an unarmed woman’s home was robbed, she was the one who ended up in the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Here we have the other side of the gun debate.

There are far more decent gun owners that are responsible than what most people give them credit for.

The issue has never been if someone should have a regular fire arm in the house, the issue is assault rifles. This story proves a regular gun for home protection is more than enough to do the job and she should be applauded.

Just because a rifle or a shotgun is painted black, has a pistol grip and some other attachments doesnt make it an assault rifle. A real assault rifle is a full automatic machine gun. The average joe cannot get his hands on one of those legally.

The shooting in the school and theatre were both done with AK47 and with large capacity magazines. You're wrong, in the US most can get their hands on them. These people were being sprayed with bullets just like in a war zone.

Semi automatics fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. The school shooting was not an ak47 but a bushmaster, a semi automatic rifle. That being said, there's conflicting stories on whether the killer used it or used handguns. The Colorado shooting was not an AK47 either.

Fully automatics are difficult to obtain as I indicated.

As much as I preach to people to educate themselves about the issue, many don't. The US has over 280 million firearms in private hands. You wont be able to make them disappear by banning them.

I find it interesting how the issue becomes the gun and not the perp and his intent to do harm.

so this turd was arrested 6 times before.

Should he have been able to drive to her house or should he have been locked up?

A sobering thought.....

Sheik
how many times have I suggested that facts do little to persuade gun nuts??

They go crazy when they hear any citizen is prepared to defend their home and family.
And facts will never sway them from their hate.

I've had the misfortune of being hurt several times by the hammer. Cut more often than I care to count by the knife. Lost the love of my life when I was 17 to a drunk and countless friends since then. But not once has a firearm ever hurt me or anyone around me while it's iin my possession.

I know, but they keep screaming the same thing hoping it sticks, I'm just doing the same thing back at em.

This is what struck me too. Six times in four/five years? Says something about the justice system.

She was lucky he wasn't armed.

he was

if you think a crowbar is not a weapon equal to that of a pistol you need to be educated on everyday weapons that kill

here is my weapon of choice wooden-hospital-cane-389.jpg

Never stopped at any border or flight for having it.

Sheik: you are correct, it is difficult if not impossible for an average civie to obtain a fully automatic firearm but it is easy to obtain the modification kits to turn semi autos into full autos. It is perfectly legal to go to a gun show, buy an M4 M16 M15 AK MP4 etc that is semi auto, then walk to the next table and buy the bolt, firing pin, and associated parts to convert it to full auto.

Now that little poster of yours is typical of the misinformation out there. It isn't only assault style weapons that is the problem.....here's a stat that should be included in that little jpg: In 2005, 11,346 persons were killed by firearm violence and 477,040 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm.....

The thing about that little jpg is that the excuse NOT to do anything about gun violence is that medical malpractice is worse. Umm no. What should be done is get better doctors AND take steps to control gun violence. In addition, they used those stats to prove that obamacare is bad.....well, what were the stats before his health plan went into effect? (has it even gone into effect yet?)

Anyhow, it isn't responsible gun owners who are the problem. It is the ease with which irresponsible people can obtain firearms in the US. The NRA is famous for ignoring that fact.......

btw, good thing that woman wasn't in Canada, she'd be charged with attempted murder if she was......
