Georgia Mother Shoots Home Intruder Five Times After Being Cornered in Attic

totally false and the mindset behind it is what is wrong with your attitude.

If the most recent event a the grade school was committed with a baseball bat or a knife, there wouldn't have been so many victims. Do you honestly think that if the perp in the movie theatre went in there with a knife there would have been so many victims?

Sorry, if you are going to use that BS as some sort of argument then you once again have confirmed my original opinion of you.......

BTW: you keep referring back to the 280 million guns out there as a reason to not to anyting about them. Sorry, that too is BS because that is like saying they shouldn't try and cure aids since so many people have it already.

what is it were committed with a box cutter on a plane?

wtf? did bliss steal your keyboard?

I THINK you meant to say "what IF it were...." and believe me, I've been pondering that since 9/11...how can someone hijack a plane with a utility knife? TO me, that's like someone robbing a bank with a pencil........in my mind the people on the plane were more comfortable being hijacked than getting a bad cut.....

But more to the point, you have to wonder why the yanks aren't arguing that not being able to take utility knives on planes as being unconstitutional...after all, the amendment says "right to bear arms" not "right to bear guns".........and that is a good point actually. So the yanks are ok with throwing the amendment out the window, while travelling by plane, but certainly not at other times......

I do mind the inconvenience of not carrying a pocket knife when I fly. Now I put it in my checked luggage.

As for what went through the passengers minds? I am reasonably certain only the flight crew ever saw the cutter.

Since the rash of hijackings back in the '70s, the consensus until 9/11 had been that if you shut up and do what you're told, odds are you're going to get out alive. Obviously that is no longer the case, passenger attitudes are completely different now. A hijacker armed only with a box cutter wouldn't stand a chance.

I think you are forgetting about the passengers who took action on the plane that went down in PA on 9/11. And subsequently, the passengers who subdued the shoebomber. And the many instances since of unruly passengers being subdued by others...just the other day I saw a photo of an unruly drunk ducktaped to his seat by other passengers.

I often agree with you in principle, Tboy, but in this case I find your assessment of the passengers' actions on that day rather arrogant. I'm sure everyone likes to think they would be a hero, but in reality most of us have never been faced with such a situation and don't know what we would do if we were.

very well said and extremely accurate when it comes to the way we think now when we fly.

The second amendment says the right to keep and bear arms but it DOES NOT SAY keep and bear assault rifles. The government reserves the right to ban certain types of weapons. I see a major battle coming down as Obama and Biden try to put an assault rifle ban in place.

Actually tboy, it shows the mindset of a lot of people.

You keep missing my point, and that there already are 280 million firearms in the hands of private citizens already. The majority of them will not turn them over,

Your definition of assault weapons differs from mine. Mine is a full automatic and these are already illegal for the majority of people in the states to own, yours is a semi automatic and under your definition all semi automatics firearms, which includes revolvers fall under that category.

That will leave only bolt action and single shot firearms.

I can just see that working now...

Very good point, but also a very American attitude. Canadians are much more passive and sheep-ish.

Major battle for sure. The second amendment is often misquoted. The full text is "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

The context is that the right of the citizenry to keep and bear arms is, in part, to guard against a tyrannical government. That's why there are people who support and buy assault rifles, rocket launchers, etc. Whatever the army has, the people should have, too.... Hell, you can buy a portable .50 cal sniper rifle if you have a spare $13,000 lying around.

I'm not sure how but maybe it's time to re-write the second amendment and put in place anyone not handing in their assault guns face a minimum 10 year jail term.

Better buiild some more jails Jumpingjackflash, because the broad definition that everyone here is using to describe as assault guns would mean about 150 million plus americans own an "assault gun".

Excellent idea, remove the guns and put people back to work building infrastructure. Kill two birds with one stone (not a gun)!:biggrin2:

the Second Amendment gives every American the right to Bare Arms and also for a Militia to protect their homes, family and community against all enemies including TYRANTS.

on a side note, anyone think the "executive order" regarding gun control is going to happen? and would it be a drastic measure or just policies that pander to the outcry, and not practically significant?
Wall street seems to think so (gun company stocks are dropping)

it will be real interesting if he does

He would be altering the Constitution and that is the act of a Tyrant.

Also every police officer and US military soldier has sworn to uphold the Constitution and as such would have to decide will they violate that oath or uphold it.

The oath all US Soldiers take

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

In the National Guard (Army or Air)

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the State of (STATE NAME) against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the Governor of (STATE NAME) and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to law and regulations. So help me God.

Come on Papa, Obama a tyrant, REALLY??:biggrin2: Dude, taking away weapons of mass destruction was Bush's way of raiding Iraq, Obama taking away weapons designed to kill gatherings of people is saving lives!

On the other hand, gun sales and prices are soaring.

An good condition AR15 that would have gone for $750 a year ago was $1,500 just before Christmas. Last night, I saw ads asking for $2,500....
