I wouldn't say Jagger started it all....there were a lot of bands before he hit the scene.....
I'd have to go with Freddie....but by a close margin. Sarah Brightman supposedly has the greatest range of any singer.....(even opera)
Now if you want range, listen to this: (it takes a while, but listen to the whole thing) Pay particular atttention to it at the 3:12 mark....Just remember, this is someone singing, not augmented by any synth......
Speaking of Van Halen, did you ever hear the demo tapes made for Gene Simmons? They were working together on an album and VH wouldn't change their name to.....get this....Daddy Long Legs (are you kidding? lol) so Gene Bailed....can you say OOPS?
There's a couple of their hits that were mixed differently and sound weird....
As for entertainment value, you have to give kudos to GaGa. I had a discussion with another monster recently and while she isn't the best vocalist, the best dancer, or the best pianist, she is one HELL of an entertainer. With that being said however some of her recent performances have been a little too frou frou IMO. There was one recently on Good Morning America or something and she was staring off into the distance the whole time......I thought she might have been stoned or something lol.....
