We hear this phrase when someone dies. Honestly, once one is dead are they really at peace and rest. They have stopped to exist or if you believe in an after life they are frantically zipping towards the light, probably waiving their arms and legs as they approach the light with stress levels like they have never experienced before because think about, that would be freaking scary as shit.

I think dying sucks and something needs to be done to achieve immortality. Imagine living forever, eating whatever, smoking whatever, having sexy with whomever, doing whatever you feel like without fear of dying.

Dying is part of the natural life cycle and it begins at birth, many would say at conception. Regardless, it is the only inevitable factor that everyone will endure. I use such phrases to be polite at one's time of grief but there is truth to those phrases as it is awful to watch one deteriorate and everyone is affected. I believe a sudden or quick death after diagnosis, as shocking as it may be, is also a blessing for those loved ones caring for them.

When someone has struggled with the pain and indignity of a severe illness, death does indeed seem peaceful by comparison. After watching Alzheimers take my dad's life long before it took his body, I took great comfort in knowing his struggle was over.

I went through the same thing, and have seen many friends pass on. While there is indeed comfort for us thinking their pain is over, the simple truth is we will not know until that time comes. Seeing someone you love in pain (whatever form, physical or mental) is probably harder on us as the viewer than it is on the patient. So when we say things like "struggle was over", it's more about ourselves than others. Of course, admitting this is not something most people will do.

I agree what we do is for the living as opposed for the dead. Death isn't pleasant to think about at all but it is the final task all of us do regardless of race, wealth and stature.

I love the idea, I'd call myself SuperDan! Robin, no I won't allow you to be my sidekick!:biggrin2:

A good topic that we discussed over a few late BBQ's. Here is another one to consider. Apparently your soul leaves your body and is reincarnated to a new one. Anyone believes that?.

death is not final yeasterday was Easter sunday and Jesus was the first person to rise from the daed Believe in Him and the resurrection and the forgivness of sins and you will live forever
sorry for the little sermon but it was fresh from yesterday
Christians can have fun even Jesus loved a party look at the water turned into wine at the wedding when the wine run out
Nothing wrong with a little fun ............

When I no longer can stand my pain...I would want a way out.....
When I can not have the quality of life I had....I do not want to just
sit looking out the window as my Father did.....

When I feel the time is right, I will know......There is only so much the
body and mind can take....then it just torture....and insanity .....

I do not want to live forever....why....I have no fear of death...I wait and long
for it at times....Death to me is my Saviour from the pain and hurt ......

Most will not understand this, but a few will .....We only Fear the Unknown...

This thread is exactly why one who believes in an afterlife is at an advantage. One who believes doesn't fear death as people who believe their last act is to become worm food as so eloquently stated to me by the departed Tboy.

Just so you know my view.....When it over ...It over.....That's it......

If you really think about it, we already have immortality. We are, after all, made up of atoms which simply go on to become something else. What really matters is if we had passion for life while we were alive.

I do agree with your second statement but your first not so much. If you are correct your atoms will be sealed tight in a casket and will go no where but remain under the ground, thus not any better than a lost can of tuna. My belief, your soul heads towards the white light filled with love and becomes filled with the power of knowledge.

I do agree with the first part of your statement, Baz, but not the second so much.

My belief?

Your soul heads upwards toward that mythic white light of love and becomes stalled in flight somewhere over the house.

Then it drops, skids down the roof . . . and gets stuck in the rain gutter.

I'm a Frisbeeterian.
