The heat will be in MY tool if I use the cock sock lol......

It was actually good to work outside on thursday. I was using a tiger torch to thaw some ground around a footing we had to uncover....in fact, this is what probably made me sick, got too hot and sweaty......

Tboy did you ever notice that when you are busy as all get out you never get sick but the moment that you can sit back and relax it hits you like a tonne of bricks?

That is so true SH, I notice that it only hits you late at night or you wake up feeling like a bag of shit. If T's ready to go back to work, dude you have a good immune system, that was quick.

Well, I'm not healthy by any stretch of the imagination. I'm out of wood for my furnace and had to order 2 face cords. They're being delivered this afternoon. Usually they drop it right in front of the house and I have to load it through a basement window and stack it downstairs.....

It's either that or pay $500 to heat the house electrically....(that's per month!!!)

I actually went out for a walk today, it was sunny and just a gorgeous day but half way in, it became cloudy and cold.

Sillygirl, can you put me up in a room if I come down to your neck of the woods? I won't sneak into your room and take advantage of you while you are sleeping, you have my boyscout's word!

When you chop your own wood it keeps you warm twice.

I said this to my dad last winter when he asked how the furnace was working.

I said: well, it gets cold and you need to build up the fire. So you go, split some wood, carry it inside, downstairs, load the furnace. Then you get so warm you don't need to actually PUT the wood into the furnace lol.....

Don't worry, Peace is coming over to wax my bum. You will be witnessing a shiny bright moon if I go commando.

If you go commando Guido I think we will be witnessing a world wide eclipse of the moon!:rofl1::yahoo:

I use to be a truck driver for a lumber company many moons ago. I use to deliver up in Barrie during the coldest months of the year and many of times I remember hand bombing the load of lumber in frigid weather conditions. My face would get as red as a jar of beets and my finger numb right through the mits. I truly sympathize with you Tboy, being an outdoor labourer this time of year is no picnic. It's definitely a man's job and my hats off to you!

Welcome aboard Melonballs, I think you will find it an entertaining place and should you decided to dabble in the hobby be very aware it's hard to leave!!

Yup, and the lumber gets ice covered and slides right out of your hands...or freezes to your gloves and pulls them off.....I was setting up some scaffolding and my gloves were damp (got snow on them, heat from my hands melts the snow, they get wet) and they kept sticking to the steel....same as the hammer. You grab onto it and can't let go. You grab it with the other hand and it sticks to that.....arrrgghhhhh

It's definitely a job where you earn every dollar you make. I recall one incident where the ground was frozen solid, I raised the bed of my truck to dump the strapped load of timber and by gosh, it hit the ground and slid about 15 feet almost taking out a garage door.

The ice, snow and wind really work against you. What type of building structure are you working on, commercial or residential?

Residential....and before the christmas break we had poured the footings for piers for the deck and muskoka rooms and then used SM and sand to insulate them from frost.....now we have to actually build the piers so we had to excavate through the frozen sand about 12".....by hand.....it is harder than concrete......

Yeah, it's not so much the cold, but the wind...cuts right through you......it's heaven when it's around -4 or 5...work in a sweatshirt...when it's -32 though? fuuuuck......(probably why I'm sick with the flu!!!)
