Before going broke or forced to take any job for less money?. My brother is in this situation and started borrowing from us. But he refuses to get a job that doesn't meet his standard way of living.

It would depend first on how much severance pay I'd get... which may be up to 2 years salary.
Then, assuming I hadn't found another job, it would depend on how much we get for selling the house... there is about 4 to 500,000 in equity in the house...
Actually we could probably afford to stay in that house on my wife's salary, but not sure... its the inability to play for fun that would hit me the hardest.
I'm only about a year short of drawing an early pension... but I'd rather not start that too soon as I've got another 10 years of work left in me at the minimum (and I Love what I do for a living).

Yep... deferred income basically, and you don't have to wait to you retire to use it, if you need the money (e.g., if you lose you job).
