It was a decision that some believe helped set the table for this year’s transportation-focused city elections and proved a turning point for Toronto’s cycling community.
With the installation of bike lanes on Jarvis St., beginning on Friday, motorists and cyclists will be able to gauge the impact of last year’s hard-fought battle to remove the reversible centre lane in favour of bikes.

Obviously I'm a fan of bike lanes... anything that increases safety for motorists and cyclists is OK in my books... but WHY on JARVIS????

Now, I haven't been on that street ever since Sears vacated their office building and relocated to the Eaton Ctr... but isn't that street already busy enough? Isn't that the street that has the middle lane that can go either southbound or northbound, depending on the time of day and arrows above indicating which way it is? Isn't this going to fuck things up even more? Why not pick a less busy and or confusing street for this?

This Mayor and council are dead set on making the lives of motorist downtown a living nightmare. The sooner these asswipes get ousted from office the better!

Not getting all the fuss . People have been pedalling their asses on Jarvis for years . About time they had a dedicated lane to do it in :great: .

With the centre lane changing at certain times of the day, it seems to cause some confusion. Not all drivers knew it was available with the green [^], and absolutely NOT available, even for left hand turns with the red [x].

Jarvis is mostly an extension of Mt. Pleasant Rd for those that live/commute thru Rosedale/Leaside.

With the bike lanes, Jarvis should become more pedestrian friendly, as in actually having pedestrians on the side walk. Although the street is generally lacking in store front businesses (Harvey's Hookers excluded).

It's a disgrace now, just a freeway in what used to be one of the most beautiful streets in Toronto.
Making it more pedestrian friendly and safer for cyclists will help bring the street back to life.
