Rob Ford applauds Jarvis bike lane removal

Bike lanes are for geeks and bikes get way too close to my limo!:biggrin2:

Sorry Peace, no bike lanes for you!

Are you afraid of cyclists passing you by and messing up your wig....oops your hair....while being stuck in traffic???

Bike lanes are great. A great game too play is to hang your arm out the window and see who can close line the most cyclist!!:na:

Clothes not close...... last guy I heard that had that done to him was killed from the impact to his throat

I am blaming it on Miller.... He put too many bike lanes in the wrong parts of the city IMHO.

sheik, where the heck you been? Haven't seen you posting much until recently....

As for your comment: +100000

As for bike lanes on roads designed for AUTOMOBILES....whoever thunk up this idea is an idiot.

Here's the problem:
1) put 4000 lbs of steel vs a 180 lbs person, who is going to lose? Not the car
2) they can only be used from about May until October. So for the rest of the year, the lanes are a complete waste of time. Sure you'll get the odd person using them on good days during the winter, but for the most part, they will go unused.
3) They go unused (for the most part) during incliment weather, so once again, they are a waste of space
4) where they are put. For example: front/eastern ave. Ok, so it is 4 lanes up until (I think) carlaw, then they install the bike lanes and it goes down to 2, until....leslie?...then back up to 4. So what you've got is a funnel for about 6 blocks....wtf? who was on crack when they thought up this?

Bike paths should be dedicated 100% to bikes. There are plenty of routes into the city that could be utlized. For eg: hydro right of ways. Put pavement in, cover it, put moveable panels on the sides they riders could use them 12 months of the year. Sure, they aren't the same as riding on danforth, TFB. Ride on a side street up to the danny, they lock up your bike and walk.....

I remember getting caught in a bike lane (when my lane suddenly disappeared), and a cyclist rode by and yelled "YOU'RE IN A BIKE LANE".....then when we got to a light, (no bike lane) he was stopped with his foot on the curb. I rolled down the window and yelled "YOU'RE IN A CAR LANE"......and I just laughed.....

That there IS the problem: you have lanes dedicated to bikes, then they disappear and the bikes feel like they still have the right to clog up traffic. Sorry, no. Until such a time that cars are outlawed in the city, the roads first and foremost belong to cars. No ifs ands or buts about it.

Now don't even get me started on those fricken electric scooters that drive on the road, on the sidewalk, scoot across 2 lanes of traffic to turn left in a left turn lane.......

Been busy throwing parties and working. No time for much else.

The only thing bike lanes are good for is a place to put the snow in the winter IMHO. I've seen too many cyclists running red lights, thumbing their nose at the laws that are in place for their own protection and for gods sake, when the highway traffic act was written specifically prohibiting passing on the right. That was put there to prevent people passing in a danger area. Yet you try to squeeze between a bus or a truck and the curb to get to the front of the traffic. Have you any idea how dangerous that is? Or how many near accidents have been caused by it?

Soon as the cyclists learn to obey the laws, then we'll start thinking about giving up a lane that is needed for traffic just for you guys.

Now this Peace guy sounds like someone I know..... Just trying to remember if he ridesa TREK or not.

Lots of hate out there, so sad to see.

I wouldn't say it is hate, more like intolerance......and that stems from the audacity of cyclists in the city.....reminds me of a guy at the red board who said that he purposely rode in the middle of the curb lane to block traffic from getting around him....it's attitudes like that that do nothing but cause more problems.

Reminds me of a guy I encounted one day. He'd ride the curb and get in front of everyone before the light turned green, then slow everyone up.....he finally did it at a light to me and I just passed him with mm to spare (F150) he was screaming at me so I slowed right down and hugged the curb so he couldn't get around me....that's the issue: when they do it to other drivers, they don't see anything wrongwith it, but as soon as someone does it to them, well, how fucking DARE they..........

Hey tboy, you ever see idiotic pedestrians?
You think that means we should remove the sidewalks? Why the hell should they get a section of public land to themselves away from cars?
Taking them away would also save the city a lot of money.

Pedestrians dont have a regular habit of stepping infront of moving vehicles Coxwell... I've no issues with bikes as long as they respect the rules of the road. Roads were made for heavier vehicles that move at a considerable speed. I have issues with cyclists that think they own the road and chose to impede the flow of traffic.

Shiek!!!! I do ride a Trek bike but I am not one of those few crazy cyclists out there. I think bike lanes should be put everywhere but lets be realistic about them. I dont want them to take up other car lanes. Just a tiny spot for the cyclists. Thats all.

Peace, can we see a picture of your bike?

I don't mind a small 2 foot wide strip for bike lanes but cars the silly left wing council down-town need to stop the war on cars!

LOL So we have chatted a few times.... Realistically every road has room for cyclists as long as they keep to the right and not try to pass vehicles stopped at an intersection to get to the front and then slow everyone down. Wait your turn like everyone else, stop running red lights and stop signs and guess what, the drivers will start showing the cyclists the respect they crave.

Wouldn't a bike lane keep cyclists to the right and out of the car lane? You should be supporting them.

I agree with you about the ones who run red lights, I'd like to see more cyclists ticketed for this.

I'd also like to see tboy lose his license for purposely driving close to cyclists, imagine how he'd feel if I drove a car within inches of his motorcycle. Guys like him made all motorcyclists look bad.

I personally think they should be treated like vehicles (which they are) and require a licence after the age of 16. You have to know the rules of the road (like any other vehicle) and pass a test. If you don't pass? guess what, you can't ride your bike on the road.

Then you'd be forced to obey traffic laws, get demerit points for idiotic moves, and be banned from endangering others. You'd also be forced to carry insurance because let's face it, if a 50 dollar bike hits a $500,000.00 car, there's going to be damage...serious damage.

I got into it with someone over at yahoo who told the story of a 12 yr old who got her pant leg caught in the chain of her bike and swerved into the path of a car. The child broke her leg and the owner of the car paid to have their car repaired....(2500 I think it was)....they didn't feel the child or the parents should pay and took the moral "high" ground as they were ok with paying as long as the child was ok.

I said: the moral high ground was the parents of the child pay for the damages the child caused. Sure, everyone is glad she was ok but that doesn't excuse her from the legal obligation to repair or pay for the damages she caused. I cited the example of a drunk driver. If they caused an accident, got injured, that doesn't excuse them from liability for the damage they caused. Getting injured doesn't give you a pass......

I also asked if a) the girl had a chain guard in place and if not, b) was she wearing shorts or c) was she wearing a pant clip to keep her pants out of the chain? See, the attitude that "she was only 12" doesn't fly with me. If you're old enough to be in charge of a vehicle, on a road, you are old enough to be responsible for your actions on that vehicle.

It isn't "punishment", it is teaching responsibility......which will come in handy later when she's an adult. Back in my day, if my brother or I caused damage, my parents would cover it and we'd have to work off the value......

Come to think of it, I seem to remember taking a bicycle course at school, and we got a "licence" after passing all the tests......it wasn't anything official, but I think it was put on by the police and they taught us the rules of the road........

Coxwell, you would think. But when Miller closed a lane from a busy north/south corridor to make some bike lanes that were nearly half a lane wide, that didnt make too much sense. Nor was spending millions painting lanes when none were needed.

And by the way, I ride a motorcycle too, a big loud one that scares the shit out of drivers that get too close to me cuz they are too busy texting or talking on their cells.

That was you! Dammit it I should of known by the red face and horns but I thought it might of been Madman!

Remember...there are good drivers and cyclists. There are also crazy lame drivers and cyclists.
