Judge William Adams beats daughter for using the internet

Hey, just wanted to point out one more thing: the title of this thread is misleading, the judge didn't beat his daughter for using the internet, he beat her because she was downloading illegal music and games, something she was told not to do. Now I'm not a firm believer of the legality or illegality of music downloads but his being a judge, and his daughter effectively committing a crime, and the fact that she was told not to, probably exacerbated the situation.......

(CBS/AP) DALLAS - A Texas judge who was suspended over a videotaped beating of his daughter that was posted online has been reinstated by the state Supreme Court.Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams was suspended with pay in November 2011 while the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct investigated.

The commission issued a public warning to Adams on Sept. 6.

In its one-page order Tuesday, the Texas Supreme Court approved an agreement between Adams and the commission lifting the suspension. As part of the arrangement, Adams waived his right to appeal the warning, which is essentially a public reprimand with no other consequences.

The action allows Adams to return to his judicial duties in the Gulf Coast town of Rockport, Texas, immediately.

Adams' older daughter, Hillary Adams, uploaded the 2004 video to YouTube just over a year ago. The video shows William Adams repeatedly whipping his then-16-year-old daughter with a belt for illegally downloading music.

The nearly eight-minute video viewed millions of times shows the judge lashing Hillary in the legs more than a dozen times and growing increasingly irate while she screams and refuses to turn over on a bed to be beaten.

"Lay down or I'll spank you in your (expletive) face," Adams screams as Hillary wails and pleads for him to stop.
Adams' former wife and Hillary's mother, Hallie Adams, expressed disappointment in the decisions of the state commission and Supreme Court.

"Hillary and I are both really sad today," she said. "I had really hoped the judicial review process would work. I had really wanted to see the public protected."

The Aransas County district attorney said at the time the online video created a national sensation in 2011 that too much time had passed - seven years - to bring criminal charges against the judge.

Adams doesn't come up for re-election until 2014. However, county commissioners voted earlier this year to cut his 2013 salary by 1.6 percent to $144,000. Other elected county officials received a 2 percent cost-of-living increase.

Also, Adams may no longer preside over the physical domestic abuse cases that previously comprised much of his court docket.

Well I definitely condone any kind of child abuse. However, there is nothing wrong with a parent instilling discpline and if spanking is required, then go for it. Sure communication is essential but communication alone is not enough to help today's children to stay on the right path.

Tooo many parents today are just afraid to discpline their own children. Parents want to be buddies with their kids. It is quite noble but kids need their PARENTS first. Kids want to be guided and reminded when they make poor choices. The kids can make their own friends.

This is why many of today's youths do not respect their elders. One thing I wouldn't do is to curse towards or in front of my parents. Yet I hear children yelling and cursing at their parents in public!! This is sad.

And another thing I m tired of hearing how today's parents complain how their parents didn't give them much while growing up. Thus today's parents want to give their children more opportunities that they didnt have before. Well I personally think its disrespecful. Those today's parents are doing well because of their parents. Many of them behave appropriately. They have jobs that pay better than their parents'. It is time for today's parents to sit back and reflect how their own parents gave up opportunities to help their children succeed today.

I have to agree. It looks like he was in a rage when striking her.

There's a line between disciplining and abusing. He crossed it.

You spank a child....You talk to a teen, ground them, take things away...and a young adult you give them
your opinion it is their choice to listen or not.....

What he did was in a Rage.....He could have just cut the internet...etc.....
