mmad, I was trying to be nice about all this but I see you can't let a sleeping dog lie. So I will tell you, no lie, that the homemade dumplings Layla makes me have chives (she calls them leeks) that she hand picked growing wild near Lake Ontario when she was in Belleville. Take that!:rofl!:
OK, you win. Let me know next time Layla is in Ottawa and I'll pay her a visit if she'll make me dumplings!

SF, with the way the economy is humming along breaking records down here you'll likely have a long wait for that impeachment

Trump's days are (maybe) numbered, if he does no get approval in November, the Dem's may take over the Senate. Every country except for Russian hate his guts for slapping heavy tariffs and at home screwing his own people namely the autoworkers. Heck!! I was surprised Canada and U.S. came to an agreement with NAFTA, now rebranded as USMCA. Seems that every person he appoints to the White House is controversial or they resign.
Trump has nothing to do with the us DOB's it is what it is. Now Let's Make DOB 's GREAT Again :YMAPPLAUSE:

With all his faults I sometimes wonder if someone like him, or even him, would be better for Canada that our dear Prime Minister? How long do you think it would take for him to get our $5 billion dollar pipeline constructed?

Oh shit, I'm trying not to continue this politics discussion, but it's just too interesting!

Now, I heard that this new agreement has a 6 year sunset clause, meaning that it's set to expire the year that Trump would leave office, if god forbid he goes two terms! So they expect that he's going to be gone, and things will go back to normal.

That really was a bad deal, but I got the feeling that they didn't have much choice but to buy it. There's a provision in NAFTA (the old NAFTA, possibly not the new USMCA), where if a government rules against a multinational's project, the multinational gets to sue the government over it. So it was likely that the compensation would've been higher if they had sued. This is basically like they settled out of court.

I get you guys, Canada is an uber liberal country so that makes things hard for you. Having lived on both sides of the border I have a little different perspective. First, I have hated Trump ever since I saw his smirking face decades ago, never liked him. Still do not like the man. Simpy put most folks went for the devil they did not know (politically) vs the devil they knew (HRC).

However what you guys read in the media vs what is actually happening here is day and night. I'll give you a little example .... in 2016 I was down here at this same time. I drove around and slowly it began to hit me that I was not seeing any HRC election signs, unless they were anti-HRC. Not even in New York state, her "adopted" home state (Arkansas wouldn't have her?). But Trump signs were everywhere, I'm not talking the printed ones that the candidate puts out, these were hand made or altered posters. I began talking to people and many were of the same mindset, that Trump offered a glimmer of hope, HRC was evil beyond belief. PA is a mostly democratic leaning state, especially the bigger cities yet I saw only one pro HRC sign. Granted, I did not go into Philly or other big city so I was doubting my observations.

I came back with a real gut feeling that Trump had a chance and it would be close, even though last minute "Trumped up" allegations were thrown around. I even posted in the political section or T e r b that things weren't what they appeared, there was a real grass roots movement down here. I took a ton of heat for that bbut had the last laugh, so to speak. I was still shocked that HRC blew that so badly (I am of the mind she blew it rather than DT won it).

Guess what? Similar things are happening now. The Dems keep shooting themselves in the foot, everything they do is to discredit Trump rather than build a stronger platform or do real good for the country. And Trump's policies have turned things around and people feel their life is better. I was no Obama fan, most of what he did was bad for the US and while the Dems cry DT has undone all Obama did, a lot of people in the US applaud that. My daughter and son-in-law were driven out of their small business by Obama's policies as were many others. It's good to see a lot of these coming back and doing well. While big industry has a lot of sway, in the US when small businesses do well, the country as whole does well.

And the Repubs who were against DT as they were fearful and many part of the "swamp" seem to be coming around as their constituents demand it. Trump has shown he will have their backs and they are slowly coming around. Again, the mob mentality of the left has helped in that regard maybe even more than any great support of Trump. Dems really are their own worst enemy. If they put half their effort into finding a true party leader instead of idiotic Trump hating they would be in a great position. Trump does make it easy to dislike him ... that he is gaining popularity speaks as much about the Dems failures.

As a liberal country (I actually say Socialist) Canada media supports the info fed my liberal outlets down here. In 2016 I was hoping to find some unbiased coverage up here but there was none to be found. There is a lot going on here that you guys will never hear about unless you spend a decent amount of time in the US. I'm thinking (hoping really) that the same thing happens in 2018. I don't want to see things undone and back to Obama's train wreck. I still hope to return to the US soon and don't want to come back to a socialist nightmare.

That's my take, we'll see how it plays out. I was a lot more concerned about the Dems getting some control back before I made this trip. 2016 showed you can never count on anything for certain so there is still some trepidation. But the bottom line is usually how people view their quality of life and folks here are a lot happier now then they were a couple years ago.

While I am not a Trump fan, I do like the direction the country is headed and let's face it, he is the one steering the ship. As a man he is still a jerk, but now I find entertainment value in the way he pushes the libs buttons and has them chasing their tails. And I can see why Canadians do not like him ... hell you guys hate any conservative President. But in the end, when the US is doing well Canada does too. It is a symbiotic relationship and no one man will destroy that. Your boy JT would be wise to pick his battles a bit more wisely. Legalizing pot will only take him so far .....

I agree with most of what you say slurp, but not the above quote! My feel for things in the U.S. now comes from my sister-in-law in New Hampshire; she said that Obama was a shoe-in! I told her she was nuts, duh! I said Trump had 0 chance of becoming President. She said not many liked him but more hated Clinton! duh!

I don't hate Trump, I think he's doing good things for the U.S. It's just that he's such a fucking idiot! and I hate Trudeau!

Holy shit slurp, you're a smart guy!

I did look into the aftermath of the 2016 election, and my eyes were opened wide on how shitty Hillary Clinton and her cronies really were. The way they cheated Bernie Sanders out of the nomination was unbelievable, third-world banana republic level stuff. Bernie was generating a lot of grassroots enthusiasm but the only enthusiasm HRC generated was from the millionaires. But during the election this was swept under the carpet, the mainstream media never covered HRC's corruption (they still don't). That's when I realized that the real fake news comes from the mainstream media.

There is another blue wave developing but it's not really for Democrats, it's for progressives like Bernie and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The Democrats have no credibility with the public, they say one thing during the election, and forget it after the election. The progressives say the same things, that it's not enough to be anti-Trump there has to be policies that you're for that are better than his. So far, most Democrats seem to agree with most of his policies, which is another surprise. How are they going to go against Trump if they can't even see how to do better?

Thanks BR, I have no problem with the Republicans, I only have a problem with the Twit who likes to Tweet. German Chancellor Merkel calls Trump something along the lines of a "pompous, arrogant buffoon"
