What's everyone doing for the long weekend? I'm heading up to northern Algonquin for a few nights of beautiful backcountry camping, getting away from computers and bloopity-bloops... July was a pretty stressful month for me, and I'm looking forward to unplugging for a few days, and going off the grid.

What is everyone else up to? Caribana? Cottage? Family? Or staying home to relax?

Just a warning, though - if you're driving somewhere, take your time and be careful - the OPP is doubling their highway enforcement between Friday and Monday. So please, take it easy on the roads! :great:

Busy weekend at the CG's...

Busy weekend at the CG's...

Friday: Will go for a ride (natch) right after work as usual, then head home to get ready for DATE NIGHT!
Saturday: Haircut & ride in the morning, and then go pick up our son in the afternoon from camp, a family BBQ back home and then a family night- likely with a camp fire and Mrs. CG jammin on her guitar etc.
Sunday: Ride in the morning (obviously), then have to take my daughters to their camp in the afternoon, BBQ in the evening etc.
Monday: Have a pedal/ paddle (ride/ kayak trip) planned with my son since the girls are at camp, and Mrs. CG has to work... and a BBQ for dinner of course. :)

LOL, I know a long weekend is reason to drink more beer. Why are you guys up north getting a long weekend?

Civic Holiday, first Monday in August:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civic_Holiday

Unlike most holidays, there is not much of a reason for the Civic Holiday to exist, other than its timing. Between Canada Day and Labour Day, there are no recognizable holidays, one of the longest stretches of time on the Canadian calendar without a holiday... Thus, the contrived holiday was placed roughly halfway between Canada Day and Labour Day; it is celebrated under numerous names in the jurisdictions it is recognized.

Lol, even the wiki page calls it a contrived holiday! So yes, it's definitely a good excuse to drink beer! :drunk:

It really doesn't have a name except for Civic Holiday.
Just a much needed summer break , and yes an excuse to drink beer

Pardon me, my American ignorance is showing, what is the long weekend for?

Actually I heard on the radio this morning that in Ontario, it goes by a whole bunch of different names depending on the municipality...

  • Simcoe Day in Toronto,
  • Mountie Day in North York,
  • Colonel By Day in Ottawa,
  • George Hamilton Day in Hamilton,
  • Joseph Brant Day in Burlington,
  • Founders' Day in Brantford,
  • McLaughlin Day in Oshawa,
  • Alexander Mackenzie Day in Sarnia,
  • James Cockburn Day in Cobourg,
  • Peter Robinson Day in Pe****orough, and
  • John Galt Day in Guelph,
as well as numerous other names in smaller municipalities. OR...

Pretty much just another excuse to party! LOL :)

LOL! Interesting how the name of the city in the second to last point is "X'd" out! Hee hee

For me this is mostly a pure chill out weekend. Rest tonight. Dinner and drinks and a pretty low-fi date Saturday. Wash balcony windows, get groceries, do laundry, and scrub my tub Sunday. Rest Monday.

I have a bunch of old friends coming to town next weekend, and I'm anticipating a non-stop Thursday to Sunday then, so I'm taking it easy until that point. I have a doubly short week as I took Friday off as well.

We Canadians won the lottery...LOL...so we are all taking a long weekend to celebrate:)

Dammit! I didn't even know it was a long weekend until today!
I had an extra long weekend last week, so this one slipped my mind.
Guess I'll spend some time touring around on the bike, have some people over for a swim and bbq.
We'll just have to play it by ear.

I saw the headline on Nikki's post and thought it would be a post about a weekend special.

Instead, Nikki is heading north! Well, enjoy. Me? I am staying in the city and will continue to look for specials...

I've got a fantastic weekend planned in no particular order I have a date with Madison Doll
I have a night out with some non-industry girlfriends, about 8 incredibly beautiful women!
I'm spending an afternoon at the beach relaxing and a day volunteering at an animal rescue out of town. I can't think of a way to have more fun on a weekend! :)

Kudos to Kyra and her animal rescuers!

I'm installing a bathtub today, tomorrow will be preparing the floor for tiling.
I'll go north to the cottage on Tuesday after the pesky jetskiers leave. Won't be getting away from it all, the internet is even faster up there.
