Since the Japanese (and myself for that matter) believe in Karma, as a country you have to be careful what you do because things like this might come back to haunt you......
I'm not saying any country deserves this, not at all, but kind of apropos how a country starts a war then years later something like this happens......

Actually, not really. A lot of countries never started wars.....Tibet & Canada, and I don't believe New Zealand or Austraila have either, for eg.....

New Zealand was a British colony so yes they were involed in a war. Australia was also involved in wars. Did they started it, I don't think so. That leaves us with 190 countries that deserves to get what Japan got.

But more rationally, you figure they started a war that ended with all the islands in their area being pounded by millions of tons of explosives. Then the final 2 big booms of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. You have to figure that did some damage to, or had an effect on, the earth's crust. Kind of like Chaos Theory. All that pounding 67 yrs ago might have had an impact on the events of the past week.
I mean, everyone is always talking about damage to the environment, but what effect does all the mining etc have on the actual earth itself? I know it is a huge structure but even the strongest bridge, or building eventually wears out or succumbs to the years and years of abuse. Another example would be a carbide tip on a table saw blade. It is 1,000,000 times harder than the wood it is cutting but they get dull in no time......

I agree that we're having an affect on the planet but I wouldn't subscribe to karma being the reason, that's the same thought process that goes into faith and God getting even with us for being bad. The Japanese aren't inherently bad people, nobody deserves this.

actually, depends on how you approach it. Like I said: karma is simply things happening to you since or because you did something previously. In this case, it isn't faith so much as cause/effect taking place......
Yes, shifting plates and volcanos etc have been happening for billions of years. Drop a nuclear bomb into Mt St Helens years before it was due to erupt. Would that make it erupt earlier or later? It most certainly would have had an effect on it.....
Karma: action, seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this life or in a reincarnation (I don't buy into the reincarnation bit but the bringing results upon oneself? I wholeheartedly agree.....) For eg: If you are a heroin addict and share needles in a shooting gallery, it is inevitable that you will catch a disease. Karma.

An estimated 70 percent of the nuclear fuel rods have been damaged at the troubled No. 1 reactor of the Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant and 33 percent at the No. 2 reactor, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Wednesday.
The reactors' cores are believed to have partially melted with their cooling functions lost after Friday's magnitude 9.0 earthquake rocked Fukushima Prefecture and other areas in northeastern and eastern Japan.

A couple of points on this nuclear issue:
1) don't believe everything you read because accurate reports of exactly what is going on are impossible as the japanese officials are keeping mum and not giving out details.
2) I listened to Dick Smythe on the radio yesterday and he made a good point: After dealing with the japanese for decades, saving "face" is a major factor in their culture. He went on to say that with this mindset, any information they provide is probably downplayed extensively and the situation could actually be much worse than it is. Due to this culture, they might not let on that they can't control the situation....
(the new harbour airport is a great example of "oops" in their designs)
and Lastly:
3) Candu reactors are designed so that a nuclear reaction has to be forced. The natural state is "no reaction" so if anything untoward happens, the reactors shut down. So in a situation like Japan, there'd be no problem because the fuel rods would by design, be cold. I know other designs are supposedly more efficient, but this is a prime example of their design flaw.
I know it may sound trite but "workers pulling back"? WTF? When chernobyl blew the russian nuclear workers ran in to stop the reaction process and hundreds died from radiation poisoning. One helicopter pilot was told to rotate out but since he'd already received a lethal dose of radiation, he kept flying. I remember seeing a video of workers running from the shelter without any protective clothing to move 1 piece of exposed material and then back into shelter. Those 20 seconds of exposure killed them.
One other thing I find really disheartening: A recent news report stated that the japanese didn't give any indication of asking for outside help. Well, they obviously are having problems containing the problem so when are they going to ask for help? When the fucking radiation cloud starts to drift over the ocean towards the US????
