There is no justice here. Surely at least a few months in jail for being a lying bitch would have served it's purpose.

Teresa Aldridge had consensual sex with one of the soldiers at a party
But she drunkenly claimed she had been raped by him and another man
Within 24 hours both squaddies were arrested at their barracks
They were 'degraded' as police took blood, pubic hair and DNA samples

Alridge later went to the police and admitted she had made up the attack

She was drunk. People say and do irrational things under the influence.

She ruins the careers, lives and reputations of two soldiers and isn't paying for that! Great system.

Not willing to judge her so harshly. Always two sides to every story:

Aldridge's solicitor Ian Bond portrayed his client as a vulnerable and troubled woman.

He said: 'She takes full responsibility for this offence, fully understands the seriousness of it and is remorseful.

'She understands how her behaviour has impacted on her victims and is sickened.

'She did snuff out the allegations the next day when she went to the police to say that she had done something terrible.'

Mr Bond described the rape claims as an 'isolated incident' and 'not part of any pattern of behaviour'.

He told magistrates that Aldridge, who has one previous conviction for being drunk and disorderly, was not a regular drinker and had drunk too much at the party on the night she made the claims. . .

Not sure those soldiers were angels by any stretch of imagination:

. . .Mr Bond added: 'She had consensual sex with a man she had never met before, there was then a dispute which led to her being shoved out of the front door.

'She was feeling pretty wretched at this point, having just had sex with a stranger and being kicked out.

She made a mistake, she recognized the seriousness of her error, she did the right thing. Presumably when she confessed the next day, charges against the soldiers would have been dropped.

Presumably, the soldier who did not have sex with her would have been vindicated.

Presumably, the soldier who did have sex with her is the one who
. . . lost everything. My fiancee and children have left me and I now lead the life of a single man. . .

,...still making a false rape accusation is something that we should not take lightly regardless of the situation. If it didnt happen, then don't say it.

Then it should be an adequate defence for rape. Not

A false accusation should carry the SAME penalty as the alleged crime. If it is, say, 5 years for rape, it should be 5 years for a false accusation thereof. The potential consequences could be a disaster for a falsely accused guy . It could be many years in jail and a ruined life.

I agree completely, but that will never happen. It's so much easier to accuse than defend. And once a reputation is tarnished, it's almost impossible to recover the reputation intact.
