Nostalgia and debate on best TV show ever.

X-Files.
I think it had a big influence on the overall expectations of how good a weekly show can be.

X-Files self-destructed so I don't think it can count. Any thing that was good about it could have just been fluke.

I don't think anyone would argue with M.A.S.H. being one of the top ten best shows of all time. However, much like The Unit which I also think was brilliant, it centered on a small part of society and human development.

For me, for a show to be considered the best TV show ever, it has to have a broad spectrum. I think The Simpsons is a masterpiece in that respect. It is a commentary and representation of the cultural development of many elements of our society for over two decades. It's funny, poignant, touching.

Obviously, there have been numerous shows created in the past couple years like Ripper Street, Banshee, Game of Thrones that blow every other great show that came before it out of the water. It's not fair to include them because they wouldn't even exist if not for the previous ones.

I'd like to pick shows like Crime Story, Miami Vice, Magnum P.I. But their greatness is applied to an era and a time unfortunately that doesn't have any relevancy past that time.

So my top 5 shows would be:
The Simpsons
Due South
Cheers
House, M.D.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer

+ 1 Great drama series.

Also loved Six Feet Under

Wire, Oz and Sopranos were all classics. I have all the Six Feet Under on DVD but just haven't got around to starting...same with a few others like Sons of Anarchy.

I still get a kick from Big Bang Theory, identifying with the nerd, physicist and academic roles in turn. And hoping I wasn't ever than pathetic (but having the sneaking suspicion I was...)

How did the X-Files self destruct slurpy one?

After they moved filming to L.A., season 6 or 7 it started fading. There were also the issues of Duchovny leaving the show.
Still the seasons that were good, to me, were very good and the writing set the bar higher for story telling in a weekly production.

Of course they also benefited from the excellent lead-in audience brought by The Simpsons. :)

Yup. It also got completely obsessed with aliens and lost itself in that. It really didn't help that the two of them could barely stand being in the same room with each other.

Yeah, he can create a new account and come back with a new guise, but what's the point.

But wouldn't be the same without his Avatar and signature picture and his name. Come on who calls himself Boing and enjoys it :don'twantto-see:/.

Is he banned for life or a few days?.

Pretty sure it was common knowledge at the time. If not, oops. Forget I said anything.

Should I also feel shame for my handle name :sorry2:

Kelly Clarkson has brushed off harsh comments from a British columnist who called the pop star a “chunky monkey” after a recent appearance on U.K. TV.

The Since U Been Gone hitmaker paid a visit to The Graham Norton Show on Friday, and after seeing the singer on screen, controversial writer Katie Hopkins took to Twitter to criticize Clarkson’s fuller figure.

Hopkins wrote, “Jesus, what happened to Kelly Clarkson? Did she eat all of her backing singers? Happily I have wide-screen.”
When her followers pointed out that Clarkson gave birth to a daughter eight months ago, the British columnist added, “Look chubsters,".

Kelly Clarkson had a baby a year ago. That is no longer baby weight. That is carrot cake weight. Get over yourselves... She is now a chunky monkey... You’re supporting Kelly Clarkson because everybody likes to have a fat friend, because the great thing about a fat friend is that it makes you feel slimmer. Every fat child has a fat parent and, that to me is why Kelly Clarkson is an important example, and she needs to allow her daughter to grow up knowing it’s not great to be fat, it’s much better to be healthier.”

Clarkson was asked about Hopkins’ comments in an interview with Britain’sHeat magazine, and the singer insisted she does not let nasty remarks upset her, saying, “She doesn’t know me. I’m awesome! It doesn’t bother me.

It’s a free world. Say what you will. I’ve just never cared what people think. It’s more if I’m happy and I’m confident and feeling good, that’s always been my thing. And more so now, since having a family - I don’t seek out any other acceptance.”

This isn’t the first time Hopkins has taken aim at an overweight celebrity - she previously singled out fellow Brit Lily Allen, calling her “hideous” after piling on pounds and suggesting she is only famous because of her father, British actor and comedian Keith Allen.
