Perla vs Flirt Court Decision

I think Premier has a standing policy to not spend money on promos or advertising. They literally don't need to now that they've established a name for themselves as the place to go to get what guys want. The 50k was probably viewed as a gamble. If they could knock out their biggest competitor and make Flirt lose the tons of money they invested in their spa, then it's a cheap victory. As it is, it's bitter pill for them to swallow but they will recover.

if it was to knock out competitio is was a stupid gamble.

if they won their income would still be the same. sure it would have been a hit to flirt as they would have lost money on the renos. flirt could sell the second body rub licence if they had to recoupe the reno costs immediately. or open a new location with more modest trappings.

if they lose they are out court costs and look petty, foolish and afraid of competition.

Well they lost so that's exactly how they look!:Crying2:

To me it always seemed like two markets that dont really overlap.

Not many flirt girls go to premier and vice versa.

Both are pretty busy.

So i dont think the two affect each other as much as one might expect since they both hold the same type of licence.

I think they tend to compliment one another. When one spa is fully booked, the overflow goes to the other spa.

It is a kill or be killed mentality at Premier. It was like the Cuban Missile crisis but instead of bombs it was about the babes and the income that they bring in. Premier wants 100% of the high end market. No if, ands or butts. :)

Maybe Premier should focus on improving Platinum. That place probably took a big hit due to the two Flirts and Muse being so close and they feared the same would happen at Perla. Even if they won the case how badly would they have hurt competition that is willing to put way more money into renovations than is necessary to run a decent spa? Even if Flirt was forced to move that lost costs in renovations and legal cost would be recouped pretty quickly.

A moderately busy spa probably brings in thousands a day in door fees.

The Platinum upgrade will take a while. I would guess the first issue would be the location. The current place is not worth the upgrade. There must be so many requirements in place by the city that getting a new location would be a bitch. Once that is done then a new den of pussy can be created. It must have taken years to find the locations for Pure and Perla and then meet all the regulation/bylaw bs.

Any time you get spas fighting it's not good for the business or owners. I know both owners a little, and they are interesting ladies. Does having two spas close to each other work out better for customers? Yes. Does it work out better for the spa owners? No. Hence the issue.

Wouldn't this type of publicity also be bad for both businesses?

Clients tend to avoid any providers that are involved in online or real life drama, because it ups their risk of getting caught in the crossfire somehow.

Absolutely. And will attract more LE, I would bet, since they can cover two spots instead of one from a single location.

The only ones who win are the customers who show up without an apt...one place too busy or not appealing, then go next door.

Neither spa has been affected by the publicity. Guys don't really care about what happens behind the curtain in the massage world.

The only problem for the owners thus far has been the legal costs. As far as door fee revenue goes I think both places are doing well as walk in selection is slim at both places.

Platinum should rent out the old chesswood flirt location.

How many spas are in the Muse plaza? How many spas are in the Parkhurst plaza in Brampton. How many spas are on Keele near York U in that plaza with Maple I think it is called? If proximity was a problem you wouldn't get clusters like this.

the bad publicity is small as how many customers use these forums?

You are comparing apples to oranges. Holistic spas have no regulations as to how many can be how close together. There are city ordanances governing licensed body rub locations. Hence the difference in spa populations. And hence the fight over Perla/Flirt...there are rules about how close they can be to each other.

Wait I thought the issue was Premier believed it had an agreement with the city and or landlord that no other spa would open in the plaza. Is there an explicit rule in terms of distance? How did Flirt win the appeal? Also isn't there some issue with perla facing south and flirt facing east? How close is too close platinum and flirt chesswood were darn close. Alpha care and Flirt dufferin/finch were very close together as well.

If there are bylaws specifying a minimum distance and that is broken then I totally get it but if it were that simple how was the decision reversed?

Setting that aside......

I've seen 4 banks at the four corners of an intersection, gas stations on opposite sides of the street, clusters of fast food. Sorry but the idea that Flirt was a threat is crazy and anyone who frequents both places can see that business is booming at both places.

There are a limited number of body rub licenses in the GTA (memory seems to recall a number like 32) and they are expensive, going for over a million each. There are regulations about where a licensed body rub can be located, what hours it operates, what services can be offered, and how close they can be to each other. There's no such rules for holistics, gas stations, etc, for obvious reasons.

Competing car dealers are often clustered, it brings traffic to the entire field.

i agree with everything that you said except the part of how close they are.

i have never heard mention of that and in my poor attempt to read the legal docs i didnt see anything about it.

Can anyone shed light om this?

not sure if same bylaws for alpha and flirt or platinum and flirt but those spas were close to each other so at the very least if there is a minimum distance it is short.

I've read through the relevant bylaws for many cities in Canada and they all have strict restrictions, but they vary from city to city, afaik.

Agreed there are many restrictions the key though is whether or not there is a restriction on proximity to each other.

My guess and it is only a guess is that there isn't. Otherwise a measuring tape could have solved this dispute rather than two rounds in court with lawyers.
