So I thought I'd come to the HUBGFE masses to ask for a little assistance, I need some help with a tent. :blush2:

It's not a major purchase, it's not even a huge decision but it's my first time buying a tent and I know that a bad tent can absolutely ruin a camping trip. I've slept in other peoples tents, I've gone in to look, did a bit of research but to be totally honest I just don't seem to know what I should look for. I don't need a huge tent, something that will keep 3 people dry and comfortable. I'm not a frequent camper (otherwise I'd already have a tent) but I would like a good one so I can go more often. I was just hoping that some of you might provide a bit of insight as to what works, what doesn't and what I should be looking for.

Thanks,
Kyra
A girl confused by appropriate floor waterproofness and rain tarps.

I was just perusing your pics and pitched a tent myself.

Does that help?

Was it comfortable enough for 3 and waterproof? If so please share!

Black Diamond Vista....Just saying lightweight .......
Now please say you are really looking for a tent and this
is not a joke....:Crying/:

Bliss - I am really looking for a tent, sadly I have been unable to pitch a tent for a little while now and I think this summer is the time to get back into it. :wink2:

(Fang is right tent pitching jokes never get old)

Thank you for the links. I have been looking at Mountain Equipment Co-op but so far it's been like trying to buy toothpaste, a ton of brands and styles but I don't know enough about the product to make one better than the other. It's a bit frustrating, I want to stay dry, I want the two of us to be comfortable (hence the 3 person tent) and I want something that is a decent value.
I'll be camping with a certain suitor and as it's the first time my Louboutins will be left at home I don't want to be a total fish out of water when I wander into the forest. :blush2:

I would say that the two most important things to consider are...

A water proof. In my humble opinion nothing ruins a camping trip faster than getting your sleeping bag wet.

B. too little room ( unless you are planning on a threesome) buy at least a 5 man tent so you have room for your cooler and stuff.

and if this spring is anything like what this summer is going to be like buy an air horn.. Lots of Bears around this year.

As much as I like Bosco I've heard that his tent pole isn't quite big enough for 3 and like most poles it can shrink after repeated use.

Begrudgingly I will have to admit you are right, lol.

Kyra, I can't get into your home page from here.

Available in Toronto until July 8

Or from your profile link.

I was planning a twosome, figured I'd make sure there was room for one more just in case I pack more than one bikini. :wink2:

God you entering my site is like me entering your place of worship, it's probably best if you can't enter as I'd hate to see you struck down.
(seriously I have no idea why you can't get in, it's fine on both of my browsers)

The last time I went camping it was in a 3 star hotel. That is what I consider "Roughing it".

Thank you son. Now get on you knees and let Kyra slap you silly.

Check out the Sierra Designs Zolo 3. Easy to set up and room for three. I have owned a Sierra Designs tent for 20 years that has seen moderate use during the summer and have had no problems with it. Look for a tent with a removable rain fly for the warmer nights you aren't expecting rain. A breathable tent is equally as important as a waterproof one, you exhale roughly a liter of water in a 24 hour period, which is equal to what 3 adults will do overnight. With a tent with a screen top and rain cover the exhaled moisture escapes the tent instead of collecting and lining the inside with water. A vestibule area is a must to protect shoes that should always be removed before going into the tent.
If you can, get a tent where the poles are collapsible and are all the same length. The SD tent above has 2 poles the same length that go corner to corner and 1 small one to tie them together across the top. With practice you will be able to get this tent up in less than 5 minutes. If you can, visit an outfitters and ask if they will take the time to let you set it up in the store. Worst thing to do is to try to learn setting it up in the rain or in the dark on your first outing.
