sue who? herself?

An important little tidbit of info in that report: it ignited plumbing supplies stored in the trunk. I bet there was a half open jar of abs or pvc cement and the vapours filled the trunk to the point of detonation by any type of spark. If you've ever used this stuff it vapourizes extremely easily, more readily than gasoline.

Which brings up another point: that is why you shouldn't store or carry gasoline containers INSIDE your trunk......

Can you not sue the car makers for being scared shitless :whistling:

My guess is that the insurance company will get her a new car without the deductible.

Right, wrong?.

Insurance companies only pay for the value of your car not a penny more. Won't be a new car.

Suing is a merit and a must. Damn it it would be unconstitutional if you don't.

depends on what kind of coverage you have. I know with some, you pay a little extra to get current replacement cost or if your model is no longer available, you get the current similar vehicle.

And no, the deductible is there no matter what the cause of the loss. Unless of course you're paying a lot more for a no deductible policy. I don't know about insurance policies in the US though, what's available, what's not etc but up here, with our no fault BS, if someone hits you and your vehicle is totalled, you pay the deductible.

She's likely to be sued, by the owners of the damaged vehicles. Negligence comes to mind.

I don't know the laws where this happened, but if there is one prohibiting the storage of dangerous vaporous materials in the trunk of a vehicle, she may have trouble recovering anything from her insurance company. Most policies have a clause releasing the insurance company from any liability if damage happens in the course of illegal activity.

she should have been cite for illegal transportation of explosive materials.

My best guess is she had a tank of MAP GAS in the trunk and the valve was cracked open.

yeah that could have done it, or one of those blue propane cyclinders one uses for soldering copper pipe......
