I'm all for events but we have plenty of venues that allow for off the road things like this.

One thing about Mayor Mel: he said that if he was re-elected he'd put a stop to any road closures for things of this nature. His motto was "roads are for driving" and I concur.

I remember one time I had to go to a job at Yonge and Sheppard and I lived in the core. The taste of the danforth was on, the DVP was closed for some event, Bayview was down to 1 lane for construction.Yonge was down to 1 lane for construction.....it took me 1 hr to get up there and over 5 to get back. I left the job at 5 and didn't get home until after they opened the cross streets on the danforth (I think that is around 11 pm).

BTW: I watched a bit of it on tv and I thought this thread was going to be about just how lame it was. I watched about 10 floats go by and they sucked ass. I remember going even into my teens and the floats were amazing. Not just a bunch of crap thrown onto a platform. Like the one with the replica dresses that some movie stars had worn? WTF was up with THAT? How in the hell does that have anything to do with Christmas? Same as the lowes birdhouse float. W T F ???

Ban all parades and marathons but you have to keep the Santa parade. Watching all the smiles from children is priceless. I missed it this year because my kids don't believe in Santa anymore but watched it on TV and got goosebumps watching the young ones' smiles.

^^^ exactly. Either that or make use of one of the many MANY stadiums, outdoor fields, parks, bike/skate/jogging trails etc. I mean, isn't that what they're for? I mean, you can go from the far east of the beaches to hamilton without ever putting your foot onto asphalt......
