A group of teens dressed as superheroes are gaining notoriety for a series of videos they posted in which they confront alleged pedophiles in Chilliwack, B.C.
In a spin-off of Dateline NBC's To Catch a Predator, the boys pose as teen girls in chats with men looking for sex. They then plan to meet the men at fast-food restaurants in the city about 100 km east of Vancouver. A string of men fall for the bait.
One video shows two boys dressed as Batman and The Flash at a fast-food restaurant, where a 54-year-old man thinks he is meeting a 15-year-old girl for sex, according to a screenshot of their chat.
"This man's a pedophile," one of the superheroes announces to the restaurant as the man rushes out.
"He brought marijuana for a 15-year-old girl. He's here to have sex with her."
The series of videos, called To Troll a Predator, have since been pulled from YouTube due to a police investigation.
More than 1,200 people 'like' the group's Facebook page and the videos have had more than 700,000 views on YouTube, before they were removed.
On the Facebook page, the teens said they had to remove the videos and discontinue the series due to "police intervention."
RCMP said investigators have interviewed the boys involved, a pair of 17-year-old boys and another boy, 18, as well as their parents.
"They didn't realize the dangers that go along with what they have done. I don't think they really did take into account they were potentially putting kids at risk and their community," RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth said on Wednesday.
RCMP are working to identify the men in the videos, Hollingsworth said.
It's unknown if the teens or any of their suspected catches will face charges.
