Tax Hikes - WTF - Us Canadians Have to Stop Being Such Wimps and Stand Up

Honestly think about it, who the hell can one vote for

NDP, usually higher taxes and pass stupid politically correct laws

Liberals- ride the squishy middle and do anything to win votes,

Conservatives-only care about the rich and put the average Joe out of work or work for less pay.

That's the price you pay for living in the best country in the world. And yes, it really is.

What is killing our country is a bloated and expensive bureaucracy.
Once upon a time people made a decision to work in the civil service because of a sense of responsibility.
As a reward for this they made less than the private sector but had benefits and job security.
Now not only have they better (not perfect but better) security than the private sector but the have bigger salaries, guaranteed pension plans, benefit packages that even the teachers unions aspire to PLUS they can retire early!
In retrospect I shouldn't have gone to University and eventually started my own business. I should have become a mailman or some other civil servant. I'd be retiring next year and once I do that, I could move one county over and sell myself out as a "delivery consultant" and suck out of the system even harder.

The worst of it is that with the average Fed making around $118,000 benefits included they think they have it bad.

In case you've never seen "The Newsroom" this is from the pilot:

Some days I feel that way about Canada as well. Especially when some c*nt informs me that I'm being audited for the 5th time in 7 years.

Picking up on Baz's thread on Rob Ford, the tax situation in Ontario is just getting stupid.

Income tax - 48% on all income above ~$85k, 1/3 (33%) on any other material income

Property tax - Significant amount of your after-tax dollars - A tax on the tax as you don't get to deduct this or other consumption taxes.

HST - Significant tax on almost all consumption including major purchases like cars - 13%. Again a tax on the tax as you don't get to deduct this or other consumption taxes if you are a person (not a corporation).

Gas Tax - I beleive that over 50% of our fuel price is related to tax

Airport Tax - Recently purchased plane tickets to Europe - $350 (fare) + 550 tax (no joke). As a comparison, you could fly from Buffalo to almost anywhere in the states for $200 to $300 all in.

Other - Licenses, health cards, annual health care levy, water fees, other engery fees, permit fees, etc.

Then they now want an additional levy for public transportation of $500 per year - WTF

We have to stand up. This is ridiculous. Where is all the money going + we have huge deficits to finance additional spending.

I couldn't agree with you more LittleStick. By the time we pay income tax, property tax, consumption tax, user fees we are literally robbed by an imaginary Robin Hood figure. The problem is the money collected by the government is managed by individuals without skin in the game. Yes politicians are also tax payers but once into power the objective becomes 1) how can I get re-elected 2) how can I feather my own nest 3) assure I last enough years to pull out a pension.

Baz, why are you being so judgmental of politicians, WHAT HAVE they done to you??:biggrin2:
