Taylor Swift Writes a Check for $1,989 to Help Superfan Pay Student Loans

Just because is over doesn't mean is done sending her fans personalized presents.

And one Swiftie may have just gotten the pop star's most generous gift yet: a $1,989 check to help her pay off her student loans.

Rebekah Bortnicker shared her story on Tumblr on Monday: After uploading a video she created casting Swift's in the intro to Friends, the 1989 artist responded with a telltale Emoji.

A FedEx (er, Swift-Ex) package arrived at her door, containing a handwritten letter, Polaroids, assorted gifts and the check.

"I have nothing to say!" a tearful Rebekah cried after opening the box. "Oh my god!"

Later, she was a little more composed – but just as grateful.

"I know I've said it so many times already but thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Never in a million years did I ever imagine this happening to me," she wrote on Tumblr. "I am so honored and so thankful to call myself a fan, to have supported you all of these years because you are truly the most amazing, genuine, and selfless person. ... I can't wait to see you on tour and thank you a 1,989 more times."

There are only a handful of people in the world that I respect as much as Taylor Swift, and none more. Her music does nothing for me; it's not supposed to. I'm not a pre teen girl.

Some of the things that impress me most about Ms. Swift:

She is her own business manager.

Most 'pop stars' have traditionally been molded in the image of a business manager, music producer, or other impresario, like an NFL Quarterback that doesn't call his own plays. Taylor Swift decides what Taylor Swift is going to do, and she knows what her audience wants, because they tell her, when she interacts with them on social media, or when she personally responds to fan mail.

I wanted to make a clip of Taylor Swift's full appearance on Late Night with Seth Myers from August 14, 2014, but my Boilsoft Video Splitter had problems opening that particular file. Most of the interview is available from Seth's channel on YouTube, but they didn't have rights to Taylor's "Elaine" type dancing at an award show, and that's the funniest part.

Taylor is kind of dorky, but in a genuine way. She's just a dorky chick who also happens to make huge sums of money by giving a large demographic exactly what they want.

I was also very impressed by how Taylor Swift handled the incident with Kanye West at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. I'll describe that in another post, with video of the incident.

I think Taylor Swift might still be a virgin; these things, I don't know. We do know that she dumps guys permanently, if they piss her off, but she's really nice to people who are nice to her.

Taylor Swift also gives tons of money to charities. She's particularly generous when it comes to victims of natural disasters, like floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes, ordinary people devastated by extraordinary weather. She acts quickly on her own while the government suits are still talking about how they're going to help out.

She also contributes lots of money to child literacy programs. This is one successful woman who's not ashamed to not be trailer trash.

Taylor Swift was the 'beard' for friend Taylor Lautner, co presenting with Shakira. Lautner is very gay, but was briefly portrayed as heterosexual in the media, to help promote one of the Twilight Saga Goth-teen movies, where he played a werewolf. Swift pretended to be his girlfriend in public appearances for a couple of months.

That's Kanye West hi-jacking the awards show, and embarrassing all African-Americans, especially Beyoncé.

The next day, US President Barack Obama called Kanye West a "Jackass'.

West issued an apology on Twitter a few days afterwards, then removed it. Later he claimed to have been disappointed that no one had supported him.

Taylor Swift was 19 years old, and was a first time nominee. She had a live performance on the show scheduled for ten minutes later.

Backstage, Pink has some choice words for Kanye.

I can't help but admire a celebrity who would allow herself to look so ridiculous in public, and not care.

Taylor Swift is 25 years old, and making $60 Million USD a year, and she just shows up at wedding showers for fans she knows personally, from personally answering her own fan mail.

She's a big success, because 'she wanted to be Barbie the most', and she had the chops to make that happen, on her own terms. No wonder everyone who is not a fan hates her guts. They wish they were her.
