Made with Love

The Nicest Thing You Have Ever Done For Someone

I love, and i stand by my friends through thick and thin. The proverbial clothes off my own back...

Three years ago a girlfriend of mine passed away. She was a buddy, not a relationship GF. She had two kids 12 and 15 at the time. Their father is a drunk and took off long ago. The grandparents were too infirm to look after the kids. The kids had no viable family option. My GF asked me if I would take them on and become their guardian. I am an older guy, single, never had kids, but they have lived with me for the last three years and it has been interesting to say the least. Getting them through their grief in the first few months was a monumental challenge. It has been the best thing that I ever had the privilege to do. Both for the kids and my late friend.

Very cool thing to do. My hats off to you.

Hey Celticman, know where you're coming from. Never had kids (happily single most of my life except for a short interlude caused by brain farts) but I also ended up looking after a lady's kid, but he was 17 at the time and not much effort. Kinda weird to go from single happy life to life with another adult (almost) wandering around the house. I still support him, and he's a good kid, and he's now off in University. Sometimes you do what you do for good reason, no matter what.

Tell people they have a nice smile and they will smile back. Never fails.

Every month I spend a night at a homeless shelter in a local church, it is the 11pm to 6 am shift so it can be a bit of a long shift. Not a big deal but it is great to help those less fortunate. I mentioned this to Felicia one time and how it was hard to rent movies to pass the time with Blockbuster gone. No sooner did I say that than she emptied her own personal collection of movies for me to take to watch on my shift. What a sweetheart! If only she was a star in one of them!

Hearing this made my day, shows there are still some extraordinary people out there.
